Taylor Swift: American Girl Meaning
American Girl Lyrics
Raised on promises
She couldn't help thinking that there was a little more to life
Somewhere else
After all it was a great big world
With lots of places to run to
And if she had to die trying
She had one...

Taylor and her band, The Agency, teamed up with Rhapsody and Verizon to record a cover version of Tom Petty’s "American Girl" as recorded on her FEARLESS 2009 Tour using Rhapsody and Verizon’s mobile recording studio.

i think this song is just about a typical teenage girl who dreams of a better life beyond her possibly small town. she knows there is something more out there for her and she is just to young to reach it yet and she feels frustrated. she sees other people having great lives and she wants to be apart of that.
the only other reason i have is that she is having problems at home like her dad abusing her mom or one or both of her parents or addicted to sdomething and now that she is married and away from home, she is going through the same abuse her mom did or maybe she did as a little girl and now when ever her husband abuses her she remembers her dad and all the painful memories come back. she feels desperate to escape. -
This song is about a girl struggling to fit in, to be a normal, american girl, and may be thinking suicide thoughs.
-
Rumour is that this song is about a girl who committed suicide, and their are hints throughout the song that the girl in the song is depressed, "god it's so painful"
This is a great song thou and Taylor swift does a wonderful cover.
