Cold As You Lyrics

You have a way of coming easily to me.
And when you take, you take the very best of me.
So I start a fight 'cause I need to feel somethin'
And you do what you want 'cause I'm not what you wanted.

(CHORUS)
Oh, what a shame.
What a rainy...

Another request! "Cold As You" is, in my opinion, one of Taylor's best songs and one that I can really understand because I have lived through nearly every minute of its story. Taylor explained its meaning in an interview, and I think even without that the lyrics are clear enough to determine... It's about a girl who has been completely devoted to this one boy, presumably for a very long time, yet the feelings - of course - aren't mutual. In fact, this boy she adores has shut himself away from her, and I'm guessing from the love of all others too. The girl has tried and tried to get through to this guy ("So I start a "), but he just ignores her or does something cruel to shoo her off, as in "You do what you want 'cause I'm not what you wanted". This girl has been hurt time and time again trying to win this guy over ("You put up walls and paint them all a shade of gray / I stood there loving you and wished them all away"), and then she finally realizes something big: this guy just might not be as great as she thought. This big epiphany is in every part of the chorus, where she is seeing that this boy simply isn't worth the trouble, and she's actually never heard of anyone as resistant to love as him. So this song is her slowly but surely letting go of her feelings for this guy and trying to move on, reassuring herself that she's "never been anywhere cold as [him]".

This song i can strongly relate to. i was obsessed over a guy. and harassed him. i suffer from impulsive and obsessive behavior. and i tried so hard to get him to see that i hate myself every day because of the way i treated him. i even have anxiety. but does he care. no. cause he never wanted me. and as far as i'm concerned he's an asshole. A heartless asshole.Who won't acknowledge the fact that what i did to him forever fucked me up. Anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts. and he doesn't give a damn. he wants that tall skinny bitch. he thinks she's perfect. and kind. but what he won't realize is i am a good person too. that feels bad about what i did to him. and i just wanted him to want me. to love me.But NO..

So, basically and most importantly, the most intriguing thing is what the significance of Nothing means because The Nothing always has such a vast story to tell even if it equates to nothing and even when it tells the tale of a mess of a girl drifting aimlessly amongst The Great and Vast Nothing.

Or, whatever story, even when there was a something amongst The Nothing; a terrible plight. However, all in a days work...of pretend and that, my friend, is something even if truly and absolutely Nothing, zip, nadda.

In the begining of the song this girl admires this boy extreamly. Then she starts a fight to gain his attemtion although she thought that what she was saying was not mean but just different than his oppinion. He used it as an opprotunity to tell her off and humiliate her by accusing her of being obbsessed with him or being mean. The girl is shocked becuase she thought he was different. In the second verse she describes how she continues to like him even after he broke her heart because she has somehow been determined to make him change his mind. But when the part in the song about comming away with the great little story happens, she realizes that no matter what she does the boy will have no love for her or anything but himself. By the end of the song she realizes that he isnt worth it and she needs to move on.

I think that its about her being drawn to a guy, who knows shes crazy about him, and uses that to his advantage... and she finally realizes that he is cold and that she wont let him use her anymore. Its heartbreaking and sad as hell but its time she let him go, let go of someone who never really loved her...

This song is clearly about a heartbroken girl who has come to the realization that the boy she loved was only using her. When she says "you have a way of coming easily to me" she means that it is so natural for her to embrace and love him unconditionally and she always takes him back. "And when you take, you take the very best of me" simply means that she gives him all of her and makes sure that she always gives the best of her in all aspects of the relationship. "So I start a fight cause I need to feel something"- means that she will find things to fight about to evoke some sort of emotion from him. She is in some way substituting and comparing his anger to his love for her. she feels that if she can evoke some sort of emotion from him than that means he cares and her mind can be eased. "And you do what you want cause I'm not what you wanted" This line she is saying that in the relationship he does what he wants with no consideration of her feelings. He does this because he truly doesn't care for her he just enjoys the fact that someone cares for him. He truly doesn't want to be with her. "Oh what a shame, what a rainy ending given to a perfect day" the end of the relationship. She was naiive in thinking it was perfect, blinded by being so in love. "Just walk away, no use defending words that you will never say" she is waiting for him to tell her that he loves her and he wants to be with her but deep down she knows thats not how he feels. In a way she hoped that he would tell her that he did love her during their relationship to give her some closure, but all he gives her is lie after lie. "And now that I'm sitting here thinking it through I've never been anywhere cold as you" she's no longer blinded by being so in love and sees all of his faults, and his carelessness. "You put up walls and paint them all a shade of gray" This line simply means that he didn't invest much into the relationship. He never really shared much about himself so that they could grow close. He just never really let her in his heart. "And I stood there loving you and wished them all away" even though he was giving her nothing she still believed that he would come around and regardless of it all she still loved him. "And you come away with a great little story Of a mess of a dreamer with the nerve to adore you" now that the relationship is over he has a story to tell to anybody who will listen about a girl who loved him so much but he really didn't care about her. She is acknowledging the fact that he played her. "You never did give a damn thing honey but I cried, cried for you" she was hurt and disappointed a lot but it didn't matter to him. "And I know you wouldn't have told nobody if I died, died for you(Died for you)" she would have done anything for him and he wouldn't have cared. simply means that the relationship was nothing to him and she was nothing to him. His feelings for her could not be distinguished from a stranger he just met on the streets. "Every smile you fake is so condescending" I think this line can be referring to both the present in the past. I think now that she knows how he truly felt about her all of the memories of them together just seem so fake and forced. Every time she thinks of him smiling during their times together it hurts her because she knows it was all pretend. I also think that this line is referring to when she sees him and he smiles it is like a slap in the face because he knows that she knows what he truly did. "Counting all the scars you made" the relationship truly damaged her and it has scarred her emotionally.

Cold as you is a really sweet song with alot of emotion involved, and you can see from the words that alot of people can relate to this song. In this song, taylor falls in love with a boy who shows no emotion towards her, shuts her out of his life, ignores her, etc, while she trys to make him love her.
First verse - He has a way of making her feel like she can understand him, but he lets her down. He avoids her/ shits her out, so she doesn't know how to feel and is confused a to what she is supposed to feel, so she starts a fight, so she can at least feel anger, but he doesn't care because she never really meant anything to him.
Chorus - "oh, what a shame, what a rainy ending given to a perfect day." when she first fell for him, everything was perfect. Towards the end of her liking him, though, things got rough.
"just walk away; no use defending words that you will never say." she just wants him to get out of her life, because there's no point in her waiting for him to say things that he's not gonna say, such as 'I love you' or 'I'm sorry.'
"now that I'm sitting here; thinking it through, I've never been anywhere cold as you" she's thinking about the relationship; realizing that he was really cold towards her.
Verse two- "you put up walls and paint them all a shade of grey, and I stood there, loving you, and wished them all away" grey is a gloomy colour. If you tie in the walls rewards their relationship, he could be labeling it as "gloomy," "not going to happen," or "not going to work out". She's trying to change his mind and 'wish away' the gray walls of their relationship.
"and you come away with a great little story, or a ness of a dreamer with the nerve to adore you" he's twisted the story around, making her seem like the person to blame for him having to hurt her.
Verse three - "you never did give a damn thing, honey, but I cried, cried for you" he never cared about her, but she loved him so much that she cried over him"
"and I know you wouldn't Have told nobody if I died for you" she knows that he is so cold, so heartless, that if she does for him, and he knew it, he would play it off so that people would think he wasnt the reason why she would have been dead.
