Taylor Swift: Exile Meaning
Song Released: 2020
Featuring: Bon Iver
Exile Lyrics
-
So the ex-bf (Bon Iver) sees the ex-gf (Taylor Swift) around with another guy and can't help but stare. When the lyrics say "you were my town, now I'm in exile" it means that they were in love; they belonged to each other, but now they're in exile. They're no longer together and can't call the other "mine". In Taylor's solo, she reveals that she knew the ex-bf was staring, and gives her perspective on what she thinks is going on in his head from what she's seeing. In their duet (the bridge), they reveal that towards the end of their relationship, they had serious miscommunication.
BI: "You never gave a warning sign"
TS:"I gave so many signs, so many signs"
