Taylor Swift: New Romantics Meaning
Song Released: 2015
New Romantics Lyrics
We wait for trains that just aren't coming
We show off our different scarlet letters
Trust me, mine is better
We're so young but we're on the road to ruin
We play dumb but we know exactly...
-
I think this song is kind of showing her frustration about how "The New Romantics" are more about short time flings and fake heartbreak instead of genuine connections.
-
I'm not sure but I think this song is about girls in high school competing for guys. She says something about "we cry tears of mascara in the bathroom, honey, life is just a classroom". I am currently in high school and sometimes while I am using the washroom I can tell a girl is upset.
The song also says "we show off our scarlet letters" which could man girls bragging or (nowadays) showing off a text or asnapchat from a guy they are trying to compete for. Maybe.
I don't know -
She's basically singing about young people who are tired of having their hearts broken. I also think she's talking about how the heartbroken are considered the 'new romantics'
