Our Song Lyrics

I was riding shotgun with my hair undone
In the front seat of his car
He's got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel
The other on my heart

I look around, turn the radio down
He says, Baby is something wrong?
I say, Nothing I was just...

This is about a girl (Taylor presumably) and her boyfriend. When she suddenly realises that they don't have a song, like most couples ("I say nothing, I was just thinking, how we don't have a song").
When she says this, he basically says that they don't need one because 'their song' is all those things she talks about in the chorus - it's all the small things that makes their relationship so special ("the slammin' screen door, sneaking out late, tapping on your window, when we're on the phone and you talk real slow ... the way you laugh, the first date 'man I didn't kiss her and I should have'" etc. etc.). In the second verse, she says how their song cheers her up after a really tough day ("after everything that day"), and in the 3rd verse, how she can't find anything as good or as special as 'their song'("heard every album, listened to the radio, waiting for something to come along, that was as good as our song"). Finally, she writes down their song ("grabbed a pen and an old napkin, and i wrote down our song")

"Our Song" is written for a couple, who doesn't have a song, instead this couple has many meaningful sounds, which form their own song. The lyrics say, "Our Song is a slamming screen door, sneakin out late, tapping on your window. When you're on the phone and you talk real slow, cause it's late and your Mama don't know." Taylor Swift says this about "Our Song": "When I wrote that song, I was dating this guy who was going to be in the [high school] talent show, and we didn't have a song. I thought I'd just sing it in front of everyone in the high school. He was my first boyfriend, and no one at the school had heard me sing ever. It helped me fit in, I guess."

I love that song me and my preacher had a piano and also it had some fun rock music and even though my parents went to church at Knoxville and they let me perform at downtown Knoxville, it was a farmers market, I want to do something with farmers market songs, and try different.

The theme of this song is that what makes life unique are the small things.
