Story of Us Lyrics

I used to think one day we'd tell the story of us,
How we met
And the sparks flew instantly
And people would say they're the lucky ones

I used to know my place was the spot next to you,
Now I'm searching the room for an empty seat
Cause...

This song is about a girl and a boy who used to be together or at least like each other ("I used to know my place was the spot next to you") and Taylor always thought they'd spend the rest of their life together ("I used to think one day we'd tell the story of us"), but something went wrong, there was a miscommunication and they had a fallout ("Oh, a simple complication, miscommunication leads to fallout"). Taylor talks about how she wishes they could fix things, but it seems too late ("The story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now"). The song also says that both people were too proud to be the first to apologise ("but you held your pride like you should have held me"). The moral to this story is to not be so proud and to just apologise if there is a disagreement between you and another person because if you wait until it's too late you could lose them forever.

This song refers to the awkwardness and confusion you feel about seeing your ex time after time after you break up. The love story was simple: the chemistry was amazing, people would tell them that they were perfect for each other, they thought that they'd always have each other, but something went wrong, (complication, miscommunication) and they had a fallout.

They chorus mentions the awkwardness of running into your ex, and what it feels like. (im standing alone in a crowded room and we're not speaking). She doesn't know what to say, she doesn't know what he thinks of her now, and she's pretty sure that the "story of us is a tragedy now."

The second verse mentions how they both act around each other now (awkward.) He was impassive, and didn't show any emotion (you helf your pride like you should've held me.) so she is confused and still hurt.

The third verse means that she liked it alot better when they were dating than when they broke up and never spoke. She isn't going to do anything about the situation, but if he initiates getting back together, she would come back (the battles in your hands now, but i would lay my armour down, if you say you'd rather love than fight.)

This song is one of my favorites because at the moment it's very relatable to me . To sum it up this is about a relationship that was going well and it all seemed to be okay but all of a sudden something went wrong and now they are barely talking and she runs into him at an award show and she has to see him and pretend to be okay when she isn't. " the battle is in your hands now , but I would lay my armor down , if you say you'd rather love them fight" meaning she would let go of her pride and apologize but as she says it's up to him . Another lyric that's my favorite is " I don't know what to say since the twist of fate cause we're going down" meaning that this was such an unexpected down fall for her and she thought that the relationship was going prefect . Last lyric that is relating to me is " is it killing you like it's killing me?" I think that a lot of us wonder this about the person we're in a relationship with . You wonder if the silence or the breakup is hurting them as much as it's hurting you . " I'd tell you I miss you but I don't know how" she desperately wants to tell him how much she misses him but she doesn't know how to say it without seeming needy i guess you could say. When you breakup with someone or they breakup with you , sometimes you really want to tell them how badly you want them back but sometimes you don't know how to say it or when. And one of the most things that stops from telling them is " do they miss me too?" And you want to hang on to your pride and you especially don't want to hear them say that they don't miss you . This song is very relatable and does a great job of expressing how one feels when everything comes crashing down even though they thought it never would .

I've always thought it was about a beautiful relationship that went horribly wrong and now they can't even talk to each other and they're in a big fight and both giving the silent treatment "I've never heard silence quite this loud" and the girl doesn't want to fight anymore and she's willing let her guard down to save their relationship "I would let my armor down if you say you'd rather love than fight." but in the end the lack of communication (I'd tell you I miss you but I don't know how) and need of a sense of pride (but you held your pride like you should've held me) put an end to their relationship "but the story of us might be ending soon" , "the end."

I am pretty sure she is referring to seeing John Mayer, her ex, at the CMT Music Awards. John, being the douche that he is, probably wasn't talking to her and probably flirting with another girl. She was obviously not over him even though he was over her.

This song was written about Taylor Lautener, and how she felt after seeing him for the first time since their breakup. I figured it out after seeing the hidden message in the lyrics: CMT AWARDS.

I think it's about two people liking each other. But neither of them made a move so he pretended he didn't see her anymore'held your pride like I should have held mine'making her very frustrated and confused. They later both decide to just part.. :D

the first verse, taylor might meant that she used to think that they would last and would tell people one day about how they first met and start the lovely relationship to boast.then after the broke up she realised that she didnt know who else to be with because she couldnt sit beside him anymore and he was the only person she spend most of hertime with, before they broke up.
Chorus might mean that they broke up because of some miscommunication and that there are many things they didnt manage to tell each other that might have just saved their relationship. Both of them dont ussually get along with the crowd but they remained silent in the corwded room which makes her feel awful and awkward and wonder if he feels the same.their brake up was not something they had expected but it just happened.
Verse 2 ,they felt really awkward with each other presence ,they also try to act like they didnt care much about each other.that happens when couples who broke up and still couldnt fully get over it.actually she do care and she just wish he would apologise and stop his acting ,so that she could get back with him.

"We're sitting six seats away from each other and just fighting this silent war of ‘I don't care that you're here.' I don't care that you're here.' It's so terribly, heartbreakingly awkward", she said. She recalled it to be a miserable experience. When Swift arrived home, she spoke to her mother about the encounter, sitting at her kitchen table and said, "I felt like I was standing alone in a crowded room." She then stood up and ran towards her bedroom to compose"

"The Story of Us" regarding the time when she encountered an ex-boyfriend of hers at the 2010 CMT Music Awards. At the event, the two attempted to ignore each other, which inspired Swift to compose the song.

This song is exactly how it is with me and my first ex. He doesn't speak to me, and I don't speak to him, although we both know we have much to say to each other

"The Story of Us," is the song everybody thought was about Joe Jonas. Which is not to be confused with the one that really is about Joe Jonas, "Last Kiss." Or the numbers about Taylor Lautner or Owl City's Adam Young.
