The Avett Brothers: The Weight of Lies Meaning
The Weight of Lies Lyrics
Go and find the people that you know
Show them all you good parts
Leave town when bad ones start to show
Go and wed a woman
A pretty girl that you've never met
Make sure she knows you love her well
But don't make any...

The Weight of Lies is about wanting to run away from your hometown. This song makes me cry because I am miserable in my hometown and I always want to run away. But I'm not capable of that at this age.
But this song is saying that you're running away from the lies you told, or just problems in general, running away from your flaws. And in the new town, you're only showing your good parts, and leaving out your flaws, which you have to live with no matter what. And the lyric "cause nothing happens here that doesn't happen there" is saying that there will be problems everywhere you go, no matter where you are.
And "So when you run make sure you run
To something and not away from
Cause lies don't need an aeroplane to chase you down"
If you are moving away, running from your past, well don't run from it. If you run away, it's better to have a goal and figuratively run to something and not run away from something. Don't run from the lies because lies and problems will weigh you down and be carried with you even if you run away. The past doesn't just disappear from your memory.
This is my emotional song. It is beautiful and the lyrics mean so much to me. I just love the Avett Brothers. -
