The Neighbourhood: Single Meaning
Single Lyrics
I still got a crush, that's obvious
If nobody's around, what's stopping us?
Everywhere I go you show whatever
I don't ever mind sharing oxygen
I just wanna get lost in your lungs

#1 top rated interpretation:The song seems to portray that once these two people felt the same way. It then highlights that the person signing abou this still feels the connection as so strongly that they cannot be alone together. It also shows the imense care and love this person has for the other and how they want to share anything they possibly can with them e.g the same air. It also explains that this girl may of moved on from him and he is asking for her new love to give back the love of his life. In a way it is implying that the girl also still has these feeling but has trying to suppress them and this song is a message to her saying that they will always have a connection. He is also talking as If he is talking to the girls father which is suggesting he is admitting he did not treat her well when they were together but he did not mean to hurt her the way she did and that he has realised that she's his soulmates. The greater underlying message is that he realises that he has fucked up but the love is so great he would wait until she can forgive him. It is showing the connection two people can have even when they are not around each other and how some things never fade.

#2 top rated interpretation:I think that 'Single' is about a guy, 20-22, who likes a girl a bit younger than him. 16-18 maybe. They both really like each other but her Dad, Dave / Devon Lee Carlson, doesn't approve of their relationship and knows that Jesse hurt his daughter in the past before. (Sorry Dave, I never meant to hurt your babygirl)So, Jesse decides to do the only thing he can do; plead for Dace to let his daughter to be his. It's kind've a cute song if you think about it. Comes off as creepy at first, but it's still really good.

#3 top rated interpretation:Or hes on about being in love with a fucking baby.
-
Jesse was dating Devon, and even though she was a little younger than him, he still thought she was worth fighting and waiting for after their split because they connected so well. He pleads with Devon's dad (Dave) for his approval to date her. He says he will keep her safe, and I'm assuming ; treat her better than he has in the past. He expresses he wants to be with her all the time because she's his soulmate.

Im sorry y’all but this song gives me the creeps, in my mind it feels so pedophilic no matter how hard you try and phrase it differently these lyrics did not give the song any justice. Don’t get me wrong, if it sounded like he was talking about someone already grown daughter than fine but it sounds like he’s crushing on a five year old
-
the song is about devon lee carlson but it didn't really have much to do with an age gap considering they are only 4 years apart and she was 20 when the song was released. I think it's more relating to the fact that her dad (Dave) didn't trust Jesse
-
I think jesse sang about Devon
-
I think this song is related to "Lolita", 'cause in both cases there is a older man who is in love with a younger girl
-
I think it may be about Jesse trying to date a man's daughter by him asking him over the phone repeatedly. He sings in the Hook "Can you let your baby be my girl?" Showing his pleading with the Father "Dave" to let him date his daughter. Prehaps, the Father does not like Jesse and does not want him dating his daughter, hence why Jesse says he can't help but call her father.
-
I read over the lyrics a few times and I think it might be about a guy liking a younger girl. Especially in the lines “she’s growing up so fast.” It suggests that he thinks for a girl her age, she’s very mature. He’s also asking her father, Dave, for permission to date her. Its a little creepy but the song is really catchy.
-
Could be DDLG based, but overall a failed relationship with the girl and him, and he still has feelings. Turns out she does to, and he comes back to her father for her.
-
It's about Devon Lee Carlson. Her dad's name is Dave.

single is about a guy who loves a younger girl. she seems to have turned him down thinking about what people may say; but he also tries to contain his feelings and cant. hence why he says "nobody's around what's stopping us?" he doesn't think they should be alone together cause he thinks he may do something vast. he loves her and "shes growing up so fast" but hes getting impatient. and he may never get her back because of her maturing stages and wanting to date and so on in the later stages he asks her dad Dave for permission to date his daughter. every little girl is daddys little girl, and the thought of an older man with your young daughter may be a indecisive thought don't you think? but jesse loves her and hes waited this long for a chance to love this girl.

Single lyrics is self-explanatory.
A guy fell in love with a girl and he wants her to be his baby.
Is the guy telling it to another or to the girl's dad? I have no idea! I don't know.
- NO bestfriend and NO potential husband
(Life is always beautiful!) -
2 people, best friends fell in love.. but they can’t be around each other as normal best friends. People would always say that they look like a couple but both of them don’t want to hurt each other so they’ve keep things lowkey. When they are alone together they are so comfortable and catch each other’s eyes. He always has his attention on her. They can’t be around each other without people looking at them . He wishes he could be honest to her and not let her be worried or hurt. One day he decided to meet her dad and asked , can you let your baby be my girl ?
