This song is about when things are hard and everything is going wrong. There are three main characters in this song. Firstly there is a 14 year old named Jenny and the line "named her baby Hope when she was just 14 she was hoping for a better world for this little girl" shows that the name Hope meant more than just being the baby's name it was what Jenny hoped would happen for her baby. The second main character is someone who was depressed and had to turn to drugs to get out of the depression and the theirs character is a woman called Mary who had always dreamed of being a politician but life hadn't worked out the way she'd hoped and she had a drunk abusive husband
