A Day to Remember: If It Means a Lot to You Meaning
If It Means a Lot to You Lyrics
And I know you don't feel right when I'm leaving
Yeah, I want it but no, I don't need it
Tell me something sweet to get me by
'Cause I can't come back home 'til they're singin'
La, la la la, la la...
-
I have taken the meaning of the song as a relationship that had to be long distance. No options. He loves her so much. She gets to a point where she wants to give up because she misses him so much that it scares her. She can't handle hurting so bad because she loves him so much. But he is there to remind her that he loves her and he will not just give her up. He WILL come home to her and be everything to her.

i think its just one of those relationships that just wont work out because hes on tour and shes not and they both know its not going to work... but htey still try

I always kinda thought it was about a boyfreind who had to fight for his country and leave his lover. The part where it says he can't come home until there singing "la la la la" means when there is peace and the war is over.
She can't wait for him forever and brings up if she can date or see other ppl till he gets back. They both knew it would had happened sooner or later but promises her if she can wait the relationship will last. -
This song is about a person who left their lover because of outside influences. He wants to come back, but he can't until everyone is at peace with this relationship. ('Til everyone is singing La, la la la, la la la)
It's from both sides, the lover and the person who left. The lover understands that he has to leave until peace comes back, but she says she can't wait forever and always. The person who left doesn't want his lover to say that they should just be friends because he knows he can make it work, and he will try with all his might to get it to work.
