   In this song what i think he is saying is his life is not going the way he planned and the thing that didn't help out was his partner cheating on him and then he realized he spent most of his life with that partner so he lost years to himself so he is looking for something to give him those years back.

   Basically, the person he loved cheated on him, hurted his feelings and technically lied about themselves so that he could feel sympathy or empathy towards his partner but then when he finds the truth about his partner, he wants to show everyone else she's no good.
