A Day to Remember: Resentment Meaning
Song Released: 2019
Resentment Lyrics
Can I learn to love these chains?
I know I had a point but now I forgot it
I'm circling the drain
No, I can't stop feeling like every day's exactly the same
With a one track mind I don't think...
-
I am 26 years old and I just came to know for the first time of my life that I have autism. It made a bunch of things in my life to make sense all of a sudden.
But so far I've dealt with my life the way it was one way or another, and now suddenly have to deal with this? do i want to deal with this?
"I need a short term fix for a long term problem" sounds right how i feel.
And it makes me mad to know so much could've been different for me if only I knew. If only the people around me who knew would have told me. If only my parents could have gotten me help, instead of choosing to ignore it because they wanted me to live like anyone else.
It's like a spark that quickly turned into a wildfire.
And now I feel Resentment. -
"A short term fix for a long term problem" -using drugs to numb the feelings and symptoms of mental illness
"Can i learn to love these chains?" -the chains are referring to becoming physically and mentally addicted to drugs.
"I can't stop feeling like every day's exactly the same, with a one track mind i don't think i can change" - talking about the cycle that is drug addiction, getting high, feeling guilty, getting high to avoid the guilt and on and on
"Starts with a spark and then it's a wildfire" - you use drugs one time, and themln just one more time after that, repeat until you're addicted and feel like you can't get out
But I'm a drug addict so maybe I interpreted it so it fit my life. -
Definitely a song about inequality, downfall etc.
