A Day to Remember: Sticks & Bricks Meaning
Sticks & Bricks Lyrics
I paid the price so I'll take whats mine
I bet you didn't see that one coming
Cause I do as I please
Apologize for nothing
My time is flying
But I'm still second to none
Always shining the brightest
When...

This song is about someone who was never there for the writer of the song. Especially in the hard times. ' Where were you when my walls came tumbling down? You turn and hide you stood close by and didn't make a sound.' What I think it means is this person was someone that was really close to him and he trusted them, and they just watched him crash and burn when he hit rock bottom.

I am fueled by all forms of failure
I paid the price, so I'll take what's mine
(i think he means that his entire life he's been through a lot of rough experiences, and now that he does not fail, he claims what is his now)
Bet ya didn't see that one comin'
Cause I do as I please, and apologize for nothing
My time is flying, but I'm still second to none
Always shining the brightest, when I'm placed under the gun (goddamn)
So here I stand the only son of a working class man
I won't be held back
I can't be held down
(sarcastically saying he basically does what he wants, and then goes on saying he is the son of a most likely average middle class father, and this shows he will not stop )
Where were you when my walls came falling down?
You tried to hide, you stood close by, and didn't make a sound
Where you were you it all came back around?
The reasons why you passed me by will always hold you down
(Asking the person he thought he was close with, where they were when he needed them the most, they were most likely in his life but not for his advantage. and the second verse, "where were you when it all came back around? the reasons why you passed me by will always hold you down". Asking where was that person when he got famous in ADTR, and things where better. basically the person hes talking about ignored him right before the point he got famous and once he was liked by so many.. the person was "held down" or had feelings or regret)
Find some paper, and I'll go grab you a pen
You can start taking notes on how this all started again
Been dead last, but found my way to the front
With my inspirational quotes on why I never gave up
(saying go ahead and try to explain how we ended like this, but my lyrics got me famous BITCH)
If you can't stand the pressure
Stay the fuck out of my way
I know my place
This one goes out to everyone who's lied to my face
My heart is filled with hate
I'm making a difference
I'm taking a chance
You can say what you want about me
But no one can tell me I can't
(This basically means stay out of my way, im doing better now and i mean to stay like this for now on, you cant stop me , and know one else can )
