A Day to Remember: If It Means a Lot to You Meaning
If It Means a Lot to You Lyrics
And I know you don't feel right when I'm leaving
Yeah, I want it but no, I don't need it
Tell me something sweet to get me by
'Cause I can't come back home 'til they're singin'
La, la la la, la la...

#1 top rated interpretation:Both the lyrical content and the two singing tell the meaning of this song for a deeper perspective then most would think. The two singing both at seperate times and together actually give a meaning that many, I believe, fail to realize.
First part
He's saying hello and that he hopes she's good, obviously. He goes on to say "tell me something sweet to get me by." This is saying that he needs her to tell him she loves him so he knows she's still waiting because he can't come home yet.
The chorus, as many would say, is stating that if she can wait, they can make it last. "Then I swear come tomorrow this will all be in the past, well it might be for the best." He stating that when all is said and done, what happens now happened and it was for the best.
Second half when she sings. She needs him there. When she says "And I know you don't want to be leaving. Yeah you want it but I can't help it, I just feel complete when you're by myside...come home till their singing.."
Indicating that he doesn't want to leave and that she understands he wants what he set off to do but that she would rather him be there.
Moving on, "You know you can't give me what I need...I can't wait through everything.." She's saying that she loves him but she can't wait any longer.
"Is this really happening?" He can't believe that they're falling apart.
"I swear I'll never be happy again and don't you dare say we can just be friends." He's upset and he can't see her as anything less than what he had her as.
"We knew this would happen eventually." While they tried, they both knew that it would ocme to this.
Now this is the interesting part, if you listen to the end, you can hear her singing the chorus with him, which is where I believe adds a new meaning because of the background singing as well. If you listen, they say "Now everybody's singing la, la.." compared to earlier when they were saying "Till they're singing" indicating that he's accomplished what ever he set out to do. Take this with the fact that she's now singing along to the chorus saying "If you can wait till I get home then I swear we can make this last" I believe it's meaning that because everyone is singing la, and she joins him in the chorus, she, while felt couldn't wait, ended up waiting and wants to make it last.
This song is incredible because they not only wrote excellent lyrics, but the way it was played and the singing added a new perspective to the song, something you can't find in a lot of other song.s -

#2 top rated interpretation:There are many interpretations, and all of them are correct. A song is what you interpret it to be. I'm my case, I don't take it as literally as most of the interpreters on here have. I see it as a general separation in a relationship, whether it be the mentioned guy going on tour or into war; whatever the reason for the separation, the outcome is the same. This guy is obviously distanced from her but is determined to keep up the relationship, and he is promising her that as soon as he gets home, they'll work the troubles out. The part saying "I can't come home till they're singing la, la la la, la la la", is a rather odd phrase that I think we should all interpret metaphorically to our own liking instead of literally, because, not to be rude, but come on people, he's waiting till his fans are singing and he has gained fame to come home and work everything out? I think that's a little too literal. I think that the la's were worked into the song because it sounded good, but I'll come back to that later, since that can't fully be explained without the writer's say. Anyways, the girl is unable to cope with her boyfriend leaving and can't handle him leaving her because he can't give her what she needs, which is love and his presence. He keeps telling her to wait, but she can't because she is so alone and doesn't want to keep living miserably without the one she loves. So, instead of fighting for the relationship, she ends it, selfishly possibly, right before he gets home to her. They were so close to the redemption of the relationship, right as everyone was singing, but she didn't stick it out for him. Now, I'd like to share how I interpret this song to my liking; I imagine it's about a person who has distanced herself and is unable to keep up the fight and wait for her savior to come because she feels so sad and alone. She wants it to end, and I'm not necessarily suggesting the relationship. He keeps telling her to wait, and that he's coming back to her to help her and save her; he goes on and on reassuring her and keeping her alive for both of their sakes, saying he'll be back soon, and everything would be in the past once he arrived. She tells him that she can't wait through everything even though he means the world to her, she'd rather end everything. He replies that he'll never be happy again, and that he will not just be her friend because he loves her ( and she can't sway him, he'll still fight for her ) lthough he knew that she would fall eventually. She is to the point where she has given up on them and herself right as he is able to reach her, or, her home ( I think that "home" symbolizes wherever she is and where her heart lays ( or her heart ) , not necessarily a house ). So, at the end of the song she is failing, but he is coming to her, to home, and is trying to reach her as he is now able since everyone is singing, but if he makes it to her in time, we don't know. That's just me. Basically, I imagine it's ( not that the song is ) about the girl taking her life but the boy not giving up.

#3 top rated interpretation:So basically this song is about a distance relationship and the guy goes on tour with his band but the girl doesn't come with him. They're both missing each other but the girl really doesn't like being without him so when he says
"if you can wait till I get home then I swear to you that we can make this last"
is him saying to wait for him to get home but they both know that he can't come home till his tour is finished.
"I can't home till their singing la"
when the girl starts singing its her perspective and she is saying she can't help it that she needs to be with him but he can't give her that and even though she loves him:
"you can't give me what I need"
"and even though you mean so much to me"
she just can't wait through this anymore
"we both knew this would happen eventually."
and they both knew from the start their relationship wasnt going to last. -
It's about a toxic relationship, he keeps saying he'll change and then everyone will approve. (la la la)
At the end, she breaks it off--then all the people are happy (la la la)

It's about being an artist in this case in the music industry. He's in the studio making his album so everyone can hear his music. It's taking up all his time and he's losing balance between relationship and career. The slap in the face to me is the duet. It's her saying "I bought you're album and heard your song, now I'm singing LA LA LA with everyone else, but was it worth losing me?". Overall the song is about what your willing to lose to get what you want.

Its about a man, who is in the military. He leaves to fight a war, to make the world a better place. Therefore, the "i cant come home til theres singing la la la la" part is basically the world singing in unity, at peace without war and hate. He's making it his job to basically "save the world". He says he doesn't need to, hence the "yea I want it but no I dont need it", because he knows, though it wouldnt effect him, it would effect others postitively. The girl in this situation sees how important this is to him, and to a lot of other people, but he is gone for so long she has a lot of trouble battling with her internal troubles. " yea you want it but I cant help it" is signaling that she gets its important to him and is happy he is doing what he wants to, but the fact that she says "i just feel complete when you're by my side" signals that she must have some internal struggles, that she relies on him for. She ends up not being able to keep the relationship going, though she wants to, but she knows its not good for her. The man begs her to wait until she gets home so he can hold her in his arms and show her he never changed, but she declines, the song saying "you know you can't give me what I need.
And even though you mean so much to me, I can't wait through everything", therefore saying him not being there isnt helping her through her supposed depression and sadness about him not being there, as well as some other things, and they break it off, though it kills the both of them. When the song says "is this really happening? I swear i'll never be happy again.
And don't you dare say we can just be friends.
I'm not some boy that you can sway. " he is angry at himself for going along with what he wanted, instead of what she needed. In my head, he ends up letting himself die in the battle field, hurt and in pain, thinking "it would happen eventually", and happy they weren't still together when it did. And his death somehow helps the world that much more, and everyone sings "lalala". -
In my opinion, I see it how my relationship went. The boy and the girl were massively in love but of course, distance was an issue. They worked through it for a long time but the pressure got to them as they moved through their own lives and things got stressful. The girl and boy both kept trying but the girl couldn't take it anymore while the boy kept asking for more time 'if you can wait... then this will all be in our past...' but in the end it just became too much for the girl and she ended the relationship.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Male lead is going to war. The first two portions of the song are actually correspondence, perhaps via skype or over the phone? The male is in a foreign nation, the female back home. They discuss keeping their fire going while he's away so they can reunite when he comes home.
Over time she gets lonely and cheats on him.
That's the story. That's it. That whole thing about him not coming home until everyone is singing "la"? That isn't about the literal band, that's about the war being over. That's about finding a resolution to the conflict. That's about peace.
The song is literally about a soldier who's saying "Sorry darling, I can't come home until I've made the world a better place" and his girlfriend who says "That's fine and all, but I need some dick right fucking now." -
I think this song is about a relationship where the guy is going away on tour, he says "yeah I want it but no I don't need it" basically means he's doing this for himself even tho he doesn't need it, I simply wants it. He also says I
"I can't come back home till they're singing" which means he's not gonna be home for awhile until his band make it successful. In the gf first verse she's implying that she's ok with him leaving but at the same time she's sad and lonely without him, and that she understands. He says when he gets home they will be able to work things out and make they're relayionship happen. In the girls second verse, she implies that she's had it and can't stand being alone anymore and wants to leave him. He says "I swear I'll never be happy again, and don't you dare say we can just be friends" he's saying that she shouldn't do this and he's trying to get her to stay, "we knew it would happen eventually" is saying that they both knew it would end like this, then at the end when the crowd is sing "la la la..etc." it's stating that now he and his band made it successful now that his fans are all singing for him but he ends up losing the girl he loves. -
Well this is about a distance relationship, with the guy been somewhere he must be possibly a soldier. I guess he is a soldier in a war and he asks his girlfriend to wait for him and not let him down. He is saying that he doesn't want to be far from her but he cannot do something about it. We can say that this is about a war beacuse "till everybody singing" refers to the fact that he cannot come back home until the war ends and everybody is happy and until there will be peace.

I feel like i can really relate to this song right now. See me n my bf have been on a rough road for the past 6 months, but its been reallb bad for the past month and a half or so. N i think this song kind of demonstrates a cycle. It starts out all lovey and the bf is like "i miss you, n im sorry for all this but This is the way it has to be." N the girl is like "i understand it baby i love you, n ill always be there for you." But shes of course having doubts about everything in the relationship every promise n every single memory seems lost n hopeless for the future. N she says: "baby i cant do this anymore. Ive jus had too much...n i cant take this." But this decision seemed abrupt. N the guys like "really.? And this jus had to happen when im about to come home n i got my head on straight." But he realizes that he was there for her jus a little bit too late...

This song is about the fact that a guy is on tour and his girlfriend didn't want to go with.So she got left at home, all alone.
But that's the way some people wanted it.
Because they don't approve of the relationship, and it's hurting them both.
Because he can't go home to her until his fans are singing"La,la la la,la la la" but also not until the people approve of they're relationship,so he can't go home until those people are singing"La,la la la,la la la"about they're relationship.
This song has a lot of feelings and emotions in it.
And can anyone tell me who the girl is that's singing in this song with Jeremy Mckinnon/A Day To Remember?I would appreciate it if you could, because I've been trying to figure out who it is and haven't found out..
Let me know please!
This is a wonderful song all in all though.
I know it by heart.(like most of A Day To Remember's songs!) -
I think this song is about a guy going away to college. he wants to stay home because his girlfriend is there but he knows he needs to get away. the girlfriend is upset for leaving him, but regardless the guy knows he needs to do this for himself, hence 'If you can wait till I get home
Then I swear come tomorrow
This will all be in our past
Well it might be for the best'
the next part is from the girls prospective:
she is so upset that he is leaving her..she cant help how bad she wants to be with him. and as mad as she is at him for leaving, deep down inside she knows its the right thing for him 'But I know you can't come home 'til they're singing
La, la la la la la la"
it comes to a point where the girl misses her boyfriend so much that she doesnt even want to be with him. she doesnt even want to wait for him to get home because the pain is so great, so she breaks up with him,
the guy is so upset 'is this really happenning'? he is trying to get to to change her mind "i swear ill never be happy again, dont you dare say we can just be friends" and then he gets upset and a way to cope is him saying that he knew it was going to happen eventually..
overall this is a really sad love story that end up with two people being hurt -
The song can be interpreted in many ways but my favorite theories are the ones about him going on tour (because A Day To Remember tours more than most bands) and the "la la la" part meaning his band has made it, and I like the soldier theory. Jeremy's older brother did go to Iraq or Afghanistan and the "la la la" part could mean everybody is at peace.

This song is OBVIOUSLY about the guy being away from the girl for quite awhile, and they are worried a bout each other cheating.
"I hope you're good tonight"
"I know you don't feel right when I'm leaving"
Stop trying to be cute and cliche. THEY WANT SEX.
"Yeah I want, but no, I don't need it."
"Yeah you want it but I can't help it."
But they don't want it to ruin their relationship.
"Tell me something sweet to get me by"
"If you can wait til I get home I swear we can make it last"
Even though the boy cares about her he becomes weak and eventually cheats on her.
"You know you can't give me what I need
And even though you mean so much to me
I can't wait through everything"
"Is this really happening?
I swear I'll never be happy again
And don't you dare say we can just be friends
I'm not some boy that you can sway"
"We knew it'd happen eventually" - They were worried from the start. -
I think the meaning of If it means a lot to you; its basically a distance relationship, in this case the guy has to go on tour. But it can also be a guy moving to a new place. He loves the girl he is with but its hard on both of them speacially on the girl. She's scared to lose him. The girl is also in love with him. The girl can't take it anymore. She can't take the fact that she can't see him anymore. She is deeply in love in him, but it hurts her that she has to let him go. The guy can't stand the thought of them just being friends. But they can't be together although they are both in love with each other. The guy isn't gonna let her go that easy. He's gonna try his best to get her back.
-
the song was actualy based on the singer and a girl he left on tour and yeaa, pretty much the song is self explanatory. he thought she could wait for him till he got back, but i was way to hard for her.
