AFI: Miss Murder Meaning
Song Released: 2006
Miss Murder Lyrics
Hey Miss Murder can I?
Make beauty stay if I,
Take my life?
Whoa-oh-ohh
With just a look they shook
And heavens bowed before him.
Simply a look can break your heart.
The stars that pierce the sky;
He left them...
-
There was this woman who murdered her lovers after she slept with them. Get it? Miss murder?

It seems as if the best fit is that some guy was obsessed with beauty and believed that he could make his image last by killing himself. Miss murder is the personification of "death" so he is asking death if by commiting suicide he can make beauty last.
He must be someone in power because the heavens bowed before him.
He must have killed himself by crashing his car, maybe on a starry night off a cliff.
He asked what the rift was in the mystery. He is refering to the reason behind his suicide. He says he would bet his life that the man who died would pay the price of love to not let his light fizzle out -
I think that he wants to give his life up for a beautiful women. It also says that he would gladly put his life upon it and it could mean that he would give his life to be famose but his life would stay were it was. Also to give it up for fame and what he belives in.

It sounds like the song is about the rise and fall of elvis. However, the video appears to be about yukio mishima.
-
Ummm. Has anyone asked the guy who wrote it what he meant by the choice of words?
That seems to me the most direct way to go.

Music videos don't show exactly what the song is about......... What I get out of this every time he says, "left behind" is jesus or god leaving us behind and to make our own decisions, the make beauty stay if I take my life" part seems as if he would rather die young when you look naturally healthy right and not old?
-
I'm still trying to figure it out. The film clip did remind me of Hitler, but there is an uncut version of the song too;
-
Almost forgot:
the crux of the lyrics appear to tell of a tortured soul not wanting to age and leave behind the beauty and fame possessed in youth.And since the romantic era was one of passionate beliefs in mysticism and the afterlife, the lyrics seem to run parallel with the thoughts of that time--think goerthe, yeah I know a boring read.
So suicide to vainly keep beauty in the afterlife is really a romanticism thing. Die young and leave a beautiful corpse--at the height of fame. -
18 century german romanticism-- where the ideal was youth and beauty. To grow old was considered an obscenity. There was romance and idol worship attached to those who died young and beautiful.
Funnily, hitler was into german romanticism as was his propaganda minister joseph goebbels--who had a ph.D in german romanticism--goebbels studied the works of the dude nietzche. It is also associated with melancholy--think hamlet and co.
Briliant video,it captures the dark emotions, the adoration of youth and the passion of that era. -
Watch the prelude it was the start of the song. It has some clues.
-
Okay, first of all, this song is way over-analyzed. Second, I don't think it's about hitler at all. I think it's about people who give up their whole lives for something that means nothing in the end, such as beauty.
-
Ok so this song isn't about hitler as such, but davey is using hitlers ideas as an extended metaphor in his song. During his reign hitler believed that the aryan (blonde hair and blue eyed) race were superior. The way hitler uses beauty to dictate parallels the focus people in society have on physical attributes - beauty dictates their life. But beauty does not last forever: it "fizzles out" with age, so we should not place so much empahsis on it. "we're the empty set just floating through wrapped in skin" -- we have lost the ability to see anything other than our "skin" or outer selves. We appear empty. So therefore the idea of hitler is simply an allegory (a symbolic system that allows a second level of meaning to be generated. In this case, the second level is the idea of physical attributes dictating our lives).

My god. Some of you people are crazy. There is no way that this song is about hitler. The video may seen to focus around a dictator but I saw no swatikas, you hitler freaks. It's just a video! And it's not about jesus either. Davey doesn't believe in an almighty being or whatever, so why would he write about one? I can answer that simply: he wouldn't! I myself am not sure what this song is about, but I can assure it's not about dead rulers or mythical beings.
