Breaking Benjamin: Defeated Meaning
Defeated Lyrics
We all fall down, the pain goes on
We bear through the war and turn the lost away
We all fall down, the pain goes on
And I'll be the fire that dries the flood
As I fight for one...

According to Chad Childers of Loudwire, the subject matter of the song is about "overcoming obstacles and standing on your own.- FROM WIKIPEDIA
- Having The Time Of My Life -
Betrayal or some kind of abandonment I think. From the first song in the album, it's always talk about war. So if you put one on one song in its own number in the album, it will become some sort of story about a war. And the song Defeated will fit in the picture of the story as one of the scene which told about the 'You' that somehow become evil or abandon the 'I' and the 'I'somehow mad at first but move on in the end. If the 'You' is evil then the 'I' somehow defeated the 'You' to bring it back. Or if the 'You' abandoned the 'I' then the 'I' somehow puzzled then move on in the moment.

I think in this song, the guy comes to realize that the girl wasn't the one for him. He might feel like she used him and didn't love him. There's an internal struggle between what the heart wants and what the mind says is logical. Coming to terms with the realization that he was played, he rises above it, and isn't defeated by the situation or the depression the situation was causing.
[I'm falling to pieces, (Pained and used)
I know what I needed, it's not you
It's not you
As I fight for one last prayer, I keep holding on
No love to believe in
As I drag the Devil down, I will stand alone
No longer defeated] -
About winning the fight with yourself, a difficult situation , or addiction of any kind. In the end... you come out on top rising above and defeating what was dragging you down.
