Breaking Benjamin: Follow Meaning
Follow Lyrics
don't count on me
I chase the sun
it chases me
you know my name
you know my face
you'd know my heart
if you knew my place
I'll walk straight down
as far as I can go
I follow you,
you follow me
I don't know...
-
I think this song about how his relationship ended up in an ironic game of cat and mouse. No one wants to step up to the plate and be honest with their feelings so they go back and forth but never get it right.
[Enlighten me, reveal my fate, just cut these strings that hold me safe] He might be saying enough bs... what's your next move?
[I follow you, you follow me, I don't know why you lie so clean, I'll break right through the irony] I think he follows her, she follows him, probably not literally but maybe through social media. She lies about caring and won't admit her love to him (she might think it's beneath her to confess her love.) He does the same and will never admit his love to her either. He wants to find a way but probably doesn't know where to begin. If anything, maybe they both want to maintain their pride, dignity, or don't want to lose their friendship. Maybe fear of whatever is holding them back.
This is one of their best songs but really hard to decipher. -
This is one of my favorite songs from Breaking Benjamin. The interpretation to a song might mean one thing to a person and hold a completely different meaning to another, so my interpretation of "Follow" will be different than others.
I think the song is about a guy who is in love with someone who can't be obtained. They might be friend-zoned or they broke up. The guy is willing to wait for her but the one he loves doesn't really know her place with him. She doesn't know how much he loves her.
Enlighten me (Go on and tell me)
Reveal my fate (are we ever going to get together again and be more than strangers or friends)
Just cut these strings
That hold me safe (just tell me the truth because it is taking too long for you to make up your mind)
You know my head (You know me on a deeper level than most)
You know my gaze (You know the way I look at you. I can't help it)
You'd know my heart (You could have my love or it could mean you'd know how much I love you if you only knew...)
If you knew your place (you belong with me.)
I'll walk straight down
As far as I can go (I'll go as far as I have to stay in your life)
I'll follow you, you follow me
I don't know why you lie so clean
I'll break right through the irony
(The irony in the relationship is that it goes nowhere and he will try to break that cycle)
Cure this wait
I, I hate this wait
(I love you but hate waiting for you to admit you love me and accept me. Cure all this waiting around that I do.)
My interpretation but I could be way off from the actual meaning. I'm surprised there aren't other comments on here with how good the lyrics are.
