Breaking Benjamin: Lie to Me Meaning
Lie to Me Lyrics
Deaden stars,
Empty roads to nowhere
Unlocked cars,
Life so far,
There's no here to get there
As fast as I run,
Could you catch me for once?
It's the last time I learn my lesson the hard way
Because you lie,
Because I...
-
This song is about a man who has been run over by a woman and she lets him down and leaves him alone at his darkest times and she never consoles him, she keeps running off yet he keeps taking her back and she continues to ya his love for her against him
-
I feel like this song is about a guy who was betrayed by his girlfriend.
"As fast as I run, could you catch me for once"
This could mean that it isn't the first time that she has messed things up for them. He might have the tendency to just take off until he cools down, but he wants her to stop him for once and truly express how she feels about him because he might be unsure of her feelings for him.
"It's the last time I learn my lesson the hard way"
He knows he has to move on because what she did can't be forgiven. This line is a contradiction to the verse above, because the verse before it wants her to stop him from running away, but this one is a statement that reads as if he doesn't intend to get back with her.
"Because you lie
Because I just love to hate you
Because you lie to me
You lie
You lie to me
You lie
You lie to me
You lie
You lie to me"
If you listen to the tone in the song, you'll get the impression that he loves her but is disappointed with her and severely hurt by her. Even though he loves her, he's gotten so used to hating her actions and lies.
All in all, I think she misled him to believe that she was in love with him, until he caught her with another man.
Interpretations are just that, they vary based on what's going on in your life. Great song regardless of the intended meaning. -
Lie To Me interpretation - the girl was lying to the guy.
Saw a comment from longsuffering at song meanings website.
Prefers to be alone -
I think it's about a one sided relationship and the guy wishes she would chase after him. He walks out on her and needs her to show she does care by going the extra step and asking him to stay. He's probably not sure about her real feelings she has for him.
"It's the last time I learn my lesson the hard way." She broke his heart somehow; by having an affair, lying to him, or using him. To me, it seems like he still loves her and wanted things to work out even after she hurt him. Beautiful song.
