Chevelle: Envy Meaning
Envy Lyrics
Search and wish so loud
Keep a candle burning
To each his own should learn
Before I turn in envy,
I learn through sorrow
I turn in envy and go,
to the wall
See how the colors run?
And feel your Sunday...
-
Someone suffering from a certain illness possibly, or pain. Wondering how it will "pan out"
They could be possibly envious other people who have it better, and it burns them inside. It could be any kind of suffering.
They "search and wish so loud" for that better life they see others having, they want to keep that candle burning that things might change, or the candle could be a symbol for their envy burning inside, as they turn to "The Wall"
I think a good symbol, for what that "Wall" could be is a use of "The Wall" on Facebook.
People are always posting happy pictures, cool adventures they went on. And if you are seeing this while is a sick state, unable to participate it can drive you insane with envy and bitterness. Salt on the wound.
They however keep "going in envy to the wall", that example I used I think fits well, of Facebook being the modern day "Wall"
They're learning through their sorrow, of seeing all they can't participate in important life lessons. And of what life could be if they weren't so ill, or sick. I picture a kind of envious, vicarious living. It's creating a huge burning in them.
The song mentions "I may not live your way, doesn't mean I'm stuck here.... The medicine takes a stronger hold"
The reference to medicine to me implies again, that the person isn't living a full life, they're sick. The lyrics "Doesn't mean I'm stuck here."
That reference again to vicarious living through other on that "Wall", that makes them burn with envy, and learn through sorrow.
Just my 2 cents. -
It reminds me of Satan turning on god. Next time you listen to the song listen closely to the lyrics.
