Chevelle: Family System Meaning
Family System Lyrics
Crawling inside my skin,
Endless pain we never quit,
The fight within that pride's begun,
Saying it's too late,
What a man's got he'll learn to hate.
Forget the time I said I would,
Replace that with I never...

I think this song is about breaking away from the "Family System". Meaning the way one is taught growing up, constantly being told "this is the way things are done" (I'm tired of your open mouth crawling inside my skin). And after being drilled with the one way or nagging of the parent(s) for so long the individual decides to do things differently and make footprints of their own.(Forget the time i said i would, replace it with i never will)

I believe this song is about sibling rivalry and the arguments and fights that emerge because of it. Sort of from one side to the other. I know there were riffs in the band during this time between the brothers as Joe the bass player departed the band sometime after.
