Chevelle: Tug-o-war Meaning
Tug-o-war Lyrics
to live and burn is tug of war
Raped!
Go back and forth until it's learned
To suffer now or nothing's gained
Then wake within a freezing sweat
Push and pull, collecting doubt
Starting seeds
[Chorus]
Lost...
-
The war in Iraq.
We go to war and then we get out of war so it's a tug of war and it's back and forth. We go to war and overthrow a dictator then establish someone worse so its a tug of war.
Lost inspiration meaning we lost our ability to inspire war and now we just wage it just to wage it. America being the most powerful country on the planet has the ability to do this.
How we went in and basically raped the country meaning we went in ans established dominance quickly and forcefully.
We went into debt because of it and now a lot of Americans are doubting our true intentions of going in and are doubting the war is justified. "Hand it off" meaning as with most wars it will be handed off to another president or hand the blame to someone else.
Panic on the rise because of terrorist attacks.
We went into Iraq because of ignorance.
Extremely good song. I fully support the war in Iraq by the way. I believe what we (America) is doing is justified. -
This is a first person perspective of a child being spontaneously raped by a specific person.
The evidence that it is constant is that the person lives and burn in the tug of war, obviously referring to the rapist's fucking them.
The verses literally go in depth poetically of how they were forced to get used to getting raped.
It gets more and more disturbing later in the song.
Now the interesting part is "starting seeds" meaning being impregnated. At this point, the singer takes a point of view of a woman.
Anyways, back to there, the rape was constant because he says "my first come, cum in shame" and reveals that dignity is stripped away from being assaulted.
The MOST disturbing part is "wasting father, collecting doubt", obviously inferring incest. The father is wasting himself away and his daughter by raping her. The rapist buries the emotional toll he is putting on this woman.
the chorus shows how her life has been raped from being raped. She is now sick, paranoid, and unmotivated to live. The second chorus shows that she was too young to even understand sex when she was raped even though (obviously) she was impregnated. On top of lost of lost innocence, she now gives into the rapist. The tug of war analogy means that she lost the war even though she fought her way from being raped the first few times.
finally the final few seconds of song it says "feed the last head trip" creatively meaning oral sex, but the buildup from the song itself means she had enough of submitting herself to the rapist, so she fights back after forced to give oral.
this song is very disturbing in its own light.
