Creed: My Sacrifice Meaning
Song Released: 2001
My Sacrifice Lyrics
We meet again
It's been a while
Where should we begin?
Feels like forever
Within my heart
Are memories
Of perfect love that
You gave to me
Oh, I remember
When you are with me
I'm free, I'm careless
I believe
Above all...

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I think that the song is about a person who suffers an Alzheimer's Disease, in a moment she/he can realize of the things that happens or to find himself/herself and make a reflection on his/her state of unconsciousness. It is known that people with that disease have some reminiscences of their lives when they were child. It may be that my opinion is stupid but I thought in one of my best uncles that I loved so much, and then he died suffering that disease......

This song is about reuniting with god.

I have to say that the only reason i want to come to terms with this is it makes me uplifted and makes me think of someone I love now. I see all this stuff about leaving a girl he loved to be happy with what she has now but the lyric "Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
My sacrifice" makes me think completely different. "We'll fly" means "we will fly" as in it is in our future. our future froj this point after we met again this time. To me signifying we will be together from here on out. We'll make peace together in yourself (him) and your mind (who).
until I read this forum didn't know creed was a christian band so maybe it is God he is reuniting with. The tears are tears of Joy to be together flying above all the others.
Still can't figure out the sacrifice unless, if its a woman, letting her go the first time but the "It feels so good to reunite
Within yourself and within your mind" would lead you to believe it is God or Jesus except when he says "Let's find peace there" he might need to find peace there but why would God or Jesus?
That makes me think not God but a woman (or guy) that he finds peace with. Might be the tears that are his sacrifice or what he left er for in the first place.

Every time I listen to this song or even think of it, I think about my best friend back in 5th grade whom I haven't seen for 7-8 years. I see this song referring to someone that has been looking for a lost friend for half his life (the sacrifice). The "perfect love" could be meaning a perfect friendship. "When you are with me, I'm free" could mean that he feels complete now that he's found his long lost friend. "We've seen our share of ups and downs" means that he and the friend could've had a few arguments, but later had fun just being friends.
-
I see the direction many of you are taking on this.. this is my take:
I think it's signifying a struggle. He's reuniting with a part of his life (i.e. the young guys on the shore, the woman from his past, and other elements), and he's wrestling with the reunion. The woman who stretches her hand out and he doesn't take it. The group of friends on the shore give him the "what's up" head-nodd and he doesn't return it. Personally, i saw a concept of someone being brought back to certain aspect of his life and his "sacrifice" is his action to turn away, once again. -
It feels like his addressing his friend which finds them or meets them after a long years.

I actually think that the song lets each one of us get our own interpretation out of it. My boyfriend used to have anorexia, and this song illustrates the moment when his cousin forced him into working out. He's now muscle guy, and still listens to the song. It inspired him all of his efforts to get out of his twisted complexions, and I don't even think he sees god in there, since I don't actually think he's a believer.

Well if you ask me what this song really means it means that he has saw his old girlfriend that he thought she got lost when something bad happened to them like a plane wreck in the Congo or something insanely superfiing extere nuts in a crazy kind of way like that but she found her way back to him but his face was careless means that he only cared about her when he is with her and I will go ahead and give these two lovers a name None is the real name of the woman and Crazy is the name of the dude but his real name is scott I think I am done with my own interpretation of this song.

He is talking about christ in my opinion...the kid in the end is not about him missing his childhood. It's about purity...a child in gods eyes is pure and knows no evil. The pidgeon in the end of the video is the holy ghost coming torwards your life.Even though in the bible its a dove. The woman emerging from the water...i want to say its a demonstration of baptizing but I have my doubt about that one. To me the childhood meaning doesn't make much sense.and the "love for a woman" doesn't either...to me, the song leans more to a religious point of view...however you want to interpret it, it is a beautiful song.

I feel that this song is about re-uniting with a truly best friend who you have not seen for years, and your emotions overwhelm you. This is what My Sacrifice means to me.

Alright I have found 2 ways this could go:
1st:
Someone on this site said that he thought he was in love then lost her and stuff. Then he found her again years later and he could have her anymore because she was with another man yada yada yada. I see how you could say that, because they are a Christian band but of course they do have other stuff involved with it.
2nd: He could also be talking bout God because he said when I'm with you I'm free, careless, above all others, I believe. So yes that's how you feel when you are a Christian that you are just free. And then he says hello my friend we meet again. That could mean that at one point he could of turned from God but then found that he could live with that and stuff like that. Then the whole my sacrifice thing would prob. be like because you have to give up some things in your life that aren't really things you should do as a Christian.
So idk lol. you choose. -
I agree with the idea that it's about a woman, especially the sacrifice being that he knows he can't be with her.
But when he says, "we meet again, it's been so long," etc. leads me to believe that maybe they were in love, but then then split apart. She got married to another man, and when he meets her again in the future, he sees that she is married and realizes that he can't be with her. This acceptance of her marriage to another man is his sacrifice.
