Creed: My Sacrifice Meaning
Song Released: 2001
My Sacrifice Lyrics
We meet again
It's been a while
Where should we begin?
Feels like forever
Within my heart
Are memories
Of perfect love that
You gave to me
Oh, I remember
When you are with me
I'm free, I'm careless
I believe
Above all...

My thoughts are:
A father who cannot see his child because the child is withheld from him by the childs mother. He remembers how he feels when he was with his child. He's free. His heart is totally broken. He falls into such a deep depression there is no going back. His love for God is so great he knows the only way he will be with his child for eternity is to sacrafices his own life. That is the only way. His love is so great there will be a day when him and his child will be together again! Until that day when they are together again, he will be with his child! Nothing can take that away from him again. -
oh boy...maybe i'm kind of tortured, but i was thinking that the song talks about an addiction to a drug. He stopped, than he relapse... But, hey, i'm certainly wrong !!!

so i read this hoping to get the authors interpretation, which i don't find here but with all the opinions floating around and my perosnal interest in the lyrics, here are mine (ours), first we are both christians , second we fell in love (in a level most will never know), third the sacrafice, I was married she was not, she was a younger adult and had an open life in front of her, so we went our sperate ways, she moves to another state.
we think of each other daily, she hears this song and the lyrics stick, that is all but " in an instant", which did not seem to fit.
twenty two years go by, we have not layed eyes on each other in 15 years, have not spoken in 8 years,
then i go to a restaurant we had gone to one time 22 years before, (this restaurant is not in either of our home towns) and had not been back since, and as i set and start to eat I wonder when was the last time she was here,
I look up and "in an instant" our lives changed forever.
there she is (in this restaurant for the first time in 22years), we recognise each other instantly, and now will be together forever,
we went seperate ways 22 years ago, God broght us back together.
there is devine intervention, you may love more than one in a life time, but ther can only be one LOVE OF YOUR LIFE -
When you allow the spirit of God, the creator, into your heart, you are not taken over like popular depictions of spirit possession we commonly see in today’s media. He inhabits your soul with you, lovingly – as long as you will allow Him to be with you. He will not control you – He is like the most loving, kind, supportive parent you could possibly imagine. You are totally free to un-invite Him at any moment, and unfortunately, even the most well intentioned among us find it difficult to keep this focus, and we push Him aside so we can have our way, unhindered by any influence.
It requires a personal sacrifice of setting aside your selfish will and desires, to keep the interaction of God’s spirit and yours cooperating together. Together, you and an ally can accomplish much, especially if your ally is all-powerful and is benevolent towards you.
A unique experience you can have when you allow God’s spirit to participate with you deep within your heart – much of the time deeper than can be consciously recognized – is that there is a co-mingling of consciousness, yours and God’s, that causes your self-perspective to be joined with Him, in such a way that you experience the things you think, say and do as if it were God doing them - like your are a passenger in the front seat of a car that God is driving. He will not, however, participate with you like this in anything that is hurtful to you or anyone else.
As you sacrifice your selfishness to keep this wonderful relationship vibrantly alive, you might experience (in this ‘unified’ way) the sacrifice God has made for you – the sacrifice of setting aside His own perfect godliness, that He could experience all alone – so that He can experience your heart together with you, even though you are so much less perfect than He is. This is not a condescending on His part – it is an act of totally unselfish, pure and infinite love. His sacrifice, and yours – together as one.
Even though we may be blind to the reality of God’s love and presence in our life, there are signs all around us - that if we could only open our eyes to see, would help us to realize this.
An interpretation of (part of) the video of this song:
“The water represents the physical existence of all you experience as life. Floating along on the water of this life’s experiences around you, you see there are some that practice the discipline of self-denial and much labor, separating themselves from others, in an attempt to achieve godliness. They are practicing a harsh form of sacrifice that they hope will help them reach their goal. You feel an intensity of desire for happiness, for fulfillment - and you open your heart, your mind, and you invite God into yourself. You greet Him as friend – you sacrifice your self-will to experience your relationship with Him. As you do this, you experience Him doing the same – and together you begin to experience each other as one. It feels like a reunion, like you have been intimate friends all along. You experience this as if it has been a long, long time since you’ve been together. He has been experiencing His love for you for eternity, before time began – before you came into this life. You are aware that there have been messages all around you in life, that many others have been reaching out to receive these messages – to try to understand what the truth is - what is the reason for all we see and experience in our lives. Messages that God has been sending out to you, to all. He has been reaching out to everyone, as everyone has been reaching out to Him, even without knowing it was He that they have been reaching for. You experience the timelessness of God’s love in your heart, a pure love – not one of this world, with all of its beauty or carnality. (You may have had this relationship with Him before and you’ve been apart – and now you open up and experience again the elation of the freedom you have in this relationship.) You experience how you are so completely loved and accepted – how really free it feels to not be afraid of being vulnerable, to trust, to believe… to have FAITH – the exhilarating experience of releasing all the pain of fear… you feel as if you are flying together with God above… everything. And you realize, together with God - your joint sacrifice – the sacrifice of your will – so you both can experience the fulfillment of being together. You feel free – free to be happy, to love and be loved.”
That was just my interpretation – what I experience. My experience with God in my life has always been liberating. I must be willing – every day – to sacrifice my will – and say to God: “I just want to say hello again.” My sacrifice.

If you watch the video on You Tube, the meaning is much clearer. This video was nominated for a Grammy. It is full of rich symbolism. Very well done.

Didn't he lose a child and this song is about that...

Well since i heard this song I've been switching around what i think this means but heres what I think it is
I believe he's talking about a close friend who passed away and He took his own life just to see him again. I get the from " Hello my friend we meet again" and "Above all the others, We'll fly. This brings tears to my eyes, My sacrifice" I think that that part means that above all others, they'll fly and that means they'll be in heaven and This brings tears to my eyes, My sacrifice means that he's sad he took his life but that's his sacrifice just to see his dear friend again. From the beginning of the song i get the feeling that his friend has been dead for a while and that he's fallen into a deep depression enough that he'll do anything just to see him a"Within my heart are memories, A perfect love that you gave to me, Oh I remember"
That's just my take on it though. Listen to the song and see of you get what i hear -
I have recently been given a lesson on the song "My sacrifice". Throughout the video it explains his that mayby he wanted a child but couldnt have one, the main evidence behind this claim is that an empty pram hits glass and shatters meaning "Hope of having a chld shattered", Earlier in the video a girl (probably his wife) reaches out to him but he ignores her, this leads me to believe that she might not have wanted to have a kid so she left her, The water filled streets relate to a myth,a place between life and death, the peoploe under the water relates to non christians and the postman is "deliverying the message of god " -Saint Paul,. In the bible Suicide is considered a sin so it might be that his sacrifice is not killing himself to save himself (when he pulls him self from the water) there are many different meanings to many to be named , from some bogan kid

Above all the others
We'll fly
This brings tears
To my eyes
My sacrifice
how the hell can some one say that to GOD?? or even Christ??
And about them being christian band. off course they are.
the thing is the guy is saying that when she is with him, he believes (in GOD) and his sacrifice is this belief itself.
And again the GIRL is just an assumption. there is no line which indicates romance. it could very well be for his best friend. No one uses "Hello my friend" for his girl friend. unless hes a moron. LMAO. so its for a best friend for me. boy or girl.
But i loved the GOD theory. nice reading. But donr think so. :( sorry!! -
I believe this song is about anal sex. It was something he and his girlfriend had, quite often, but when she broke up with him, he no longer had it. Now that he has someone new, they probably endulge in anal often, and is happy to have it back in his repertoire (hello my friend we meet again, it's been a while, where should we begin . . . Feels like forever).

I believe this song is referring to your childhood. The sacrifice is the fact that you have to grow up and grow old. As long as you keep the child within your heart and within your mind, you will find peace.
-
the song meaning is about whatever or whoever you think of when you here it...but one thing i wanna say it creed is not a christian band...if they were a christian band then they wouldnt have cursed in there latest album...but if one person thinks of anorexia and another person thinks of a previous relationship then who are you to tell them wrong...if thats what there singin about when they sing the song the thats the song meaning for them...it varies on what you think it is
-
It is quite simple, although not nice, he is talking about the sacrifice he is soon to make. It is quite obvious from the video that he is blind and begins to think about his life and how he has got to this point. In the end sacrifices the child (who would have probably died anyway in the terrible storm) and steals his eyesight for himself. I find it a rather disturbing song.
-
All of you people are seriously daft, the song is about god, and if you don't believe me, ask Scott Stapp yourself.
-
Okay, here's what I think.
He is talking to God, he says hello again, and that he had a perfect love, so it must be God. Also, it seems he is sort of a prodigal, but that's another lesson.
When he says "when you are with me i'm free, careless I believe, above all the others we'll fly" he is obviously talking about Jesus Christ and the freedom from Sin, and the Joy of serving God and seeing His glory one day in heaven (we'll fly) and in "this brings tears to my eyes, my sacrifice" he is crying over the great Love and Mercy he recieved from Jesus Christ, who is our sacrifice, He took our place, the wrath of God who is Just and Fair, because our Sins went against Him, and Jesus Christ was crushed for us (my sacrifice)
If you're going to look at this song from a secular perspective, it's still deeper than just about some girl. If you ignore the fact that it's about God, the only conclusion I can come to is that he is talking to a dear friend of his, as his life has taken a few unexpected turns, he misses this friendship. Again, I think it's about God, but i'm not speaking for the artists.
