Dio: Rainbow in the Dark Meaning
Song Released: 1983
Rainbow in the Dark Lyrics
You know it always brings me down
'Cause it's free and I see that it's me
Who's lost and never found
I cry out for magic
I feel it dancing in the light
It was cold, I lost my hold
To the shadows of the night
No...

#1 top rated interpretation:that you have this tremendous potential inside you and you yourself know you have it but whatever or whoever your demon is it holds you back. (depression, bad relationship, acne scars, poor, stutter problem, immigrant, booze, obese)
so nobody can see you shine see your light see how great you really are you are lost hidden from everyone
you are a rainbow in the dark
a waste of potential nobody will ever see you or know how great you could have been. -
I came in from a completely different perspective. I study quantum physics and my very first thought was “when I see lightening, it always brings me down, cause it’s free” 〰️So if you know about Tesla and free energy sources, that is shouting it out -Free Energy is available and they shut him down. “Crying for magic, see it dancing it the night” I mean it’s science/not magic, but it’s so significant & would change our world

Dio was part of a band call RAINBOW and decide to leave RAINBOW "in the dark" to move forward to THE band called Black Sabbath and continue his success solo!

This was probably penned with the help of the Devil himself. Let's go through this part by part. Unfortunately, lyric sites miss parts at times. Just be advised I love this song although it's from my enemy. And meant to dissuade you from hope in Jesus. "Fall like lightning..its me". That's Satan kicked out of heaven as witnessed by Jesus. "I saw the Devil fall like lightning" Says it himself "that's me...free" Tells himself and listener he is free from Gods authority and you can be too. "Lost and never found"...in the 70s and early 80s Christian converts would proclaim they are found (the Truth in Jesus) and no longer lost < going to Hell>. The lyricist then just admitted he was tempted and seduced by "Magic" and now dark shadows
in the night torment and control him. Next part:"No sign of the Morning coming...left on your own..rainbow in dark" means Jesus is the Morning Star he doesnt care about you,not coming. Rainbow is Gods promise, there are no rainbows in the dark . Means God doesnt care about you, give up on Jesus.
Next part. "Demons..let you go?" Give up, we are here for you for ever. Not just your desires and negative memories, because they have demons to inspire those things. "Someone that you know?" Letting the listener know the dark side is working through an intimate or peer to influence you. Very important con: Dio writes "were just a picture...a lie. Words without a rhyme" according to latest physics theory reality could be an energetic hologram, so Satan wants you to give on your ideas of autonomy and personhood < that you have a soul and are valuable>. This song is designed to entrance the vulnerable, give up hope in God, and follow Lucifer. The Devil is like a big pimp, make you love the one that hates you, until you are destroyed. It's no coincidence the leaders of the world sound just like the devil. -
Yeah I think the song is is about being alone but also a jab at Blackmore. I definitely think the lady in the video is Dio and the stalker is Blackmore wanting Dio back after Rainbow ran through its commercial success and was struggling. What clinches it for me is Vivian Cambell at the end of the video taking the girl and playing guitar going by the creepy man.

It's about a boy being manipulated by the devil trying to fight he's way too the light but can't be seen because he's the only person who is witnessing the legion power.

The "rainbow" is a sign God promised to us. Read about it in the Bible.
A rainbow can only be seen after a rain when clouds break allowing sun rays through. It never happens during the dark or lightning storm.
I interpret this song to say that the Devil will promise us a rainbow but it is a trick so don't believe it. -
He's stuck in the dark he sees out into the light but his demons won't let go of him so he stuck in the dark but he's a he's so shining but he is a rainbow in the dark no one can see him

That Dio is speaking of his isolation after Rainbow and that it is a jab at Blackmore.
-
I have a feeling he speaks about blackmore.

RJD was aware and tuned into something. Listened to him as a teen in the 80's, never really got it, it was just good heavy metal music.
Now after several years of yogic studies and a different understanding of the word occult, I see Ronnie was tapped into something and he truly wanted to share it but couldn't.
"Feel the magic. Feel it floating in the air."
It is. One must be attuned to notice it. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Dio in an interview described why he made Rainbow in the dark...
Its was made around his feelings on being lonely when he was younger, for all the people that felt alone and like the girl he wanted to get was with anther person. And because of this felt depressed and described himself as a Rainbow in the dark.. So basically..
You feel alone because the person you want to be with is taken, also shown in the official video it has nothing to do with old bands or such.. -
Okay. THIS SONG IS NOT ABOUT HEROIN.
WHY MUST EVERY SONG BE CONSIDERED TO BE ABOUT DRUGS??????
This song is about being left out, or left behind, hence "rainbow in the dark." -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
