Ed Sheeran: Even My Dad Does Sometimes Meaning
Even My Dad Does Sometimes Lyrics
Even my dad does sometimes
So don't wipe your eyes
Tears remind you you're alive
It's alright to die
'Cause death's the only thing you haven't tried
But just for tonight
Hold on
So live life like you're giving...

This song really hits me in the heart. Whilst the true story is about his friend suffering from cancer, there are so many more meanings behind this.
Such as, the line, '... Death's the only thing you haven't tried,' can be interpreted into someone suffering emotionally, but isn't yet ready to give up their life yet.
This song tells everyone it's okay to break down and cry, it's okay to not be able to carry the burden, as long as you don't collapse underneath it and give up.
I feel like it's kind of using reverse psychology, by saying, '...So live life like you're giving up, because you act like you are,' and almost telling us that whilst you can break down, if you give up you're not gonna get anywhere. -
This song is about his friend, Amy Wadge, who was suffering from cancer at the time. While she is now in remission, Wadge and Sheeran both wrote “Thinking Out Loud” and the “Songs I Wrote With Amy” EP where they wrote 9 songs in just 2 days. He sings about what it’s like trying to support someone with a potentially terminal illness when it seems hopeless. But he still ends the song with light- “Hold on” are the last words of the song.
-
I think he is talking to a depressed person who is about to commit suicide, "go ahead and tear me apart".

ED tells us through his song that's ok to do all the thing that are weird&inevitable since even his father whom he sees as strong, unmoved&vibrant personality also does it.Naturally, tears are shed to show grief and its also a sign of weakness&its said that men do not cry but ed say a father&man cries then why not it &be free?
