Firefly Lyrics

I fell in love next to you
Burning fires in this room
It just fits
Light and smooth
Like my feet in my shoes
Little one, lie with me
Sew you heart to my sleeve
We'll stay quiet
Underneath shooting stars
If it helps you sleep
And hold me...

"There is a firefly loose tonight, better catch it before it burns this place down"-
This could mean the firefly was representing his love for her and the place was their friendship, this means if the love got out of control it would burn their friendship till it was no longer there. So, he wanted to catch it and possibly try and extinguish it so he wouldn't have to worry about losing his friendship the with the girl. I don't know, maybe a wrong interpretation, but yeah.

I think it's when you're falling in love with somebody and it's a new feeling and you don't want to mess everything up. He talks about how 'you're the one to help me get to sleep' so their friendship is really important to him but he doesn't want to mess it up.

Also, fireflies symbolizes love. Normally fireflies are good and liked, as with love, but he warns her that it'll "burn this place down", because he knows (or thinks that he knows) if he lets his love out- or lets the firefly out- it'll "burn" their friendship and it might not be able to be reconstructed.

"Feelings like you won't believe" applies to he can't believe what he is feeling for the girl.

He's trying to suppress his feelings for her but can't as conveyed in, "and i lied if i don't feel so right. but the world looks better through your eyes."

    just one possible interpretation! :D

He says in the beginning that he fell in love. and it's just so natural so conformable. Like shoes. He wont her her. "Sew your heart to my sleeve"

He loves her. He's just afraid to tell her in fear of loosing there friendship. The love he has for her means a lot to him but so does the friend ship. "Hold me tight, don't let me breath feeling like you wont believe"

He refers to the firefly as both good and bad. Good that he loves her but bad at the same time. "There is a firefly loose tonight, better catch it before it burns this place down"

I kept imagining my future child and holding them and singing this because this is what I think having a baby in your arms feels like.

I think it means his love is the firefly but he thinks that his love for her could ruin their friendship (burn this place down). He admits that it doesn't feel too right, but with her he has a happier outlook on life. Then he doubts that one night of feeling this way will be enough to make him fall in love with her. He wants to keep feeling this incredibly so he wants her to hold him close so he won't ever be able to stop loving her.

I think the firefly stands for him confessing his love for her and telling her might change the dynamic of them.

I think the meaning is that a little thing can make a big change, "There's a firefly, loose tonight, better catch it before it burns this place down." The girl he is singing about takes life so easily; she lives in the moment and doesn't worry about anything.
