Grade 8 Lyrics

My mind is a warrior, my heart is a foreigner
My eyes are the colour of red like a sunset
I’ll never keep it bottled up and left to the hands of the coroner
Be a true heart not a follower, we're not done yet
And I see it in your movements...

In the United Kingdom the music exams are graded from 1 to 8, with grade 1 being the entry level, and grade 8 being the standard required for entry to higher study in a music college. If someone is strumming on "heart strings" at a Grade 8 level, as they would guitar strings, then that means they are highly skilled at it.

Grades in music in uk go from 1to 8 . Grade 8 being the best and would take you many years to get . Grade 8 is the best and he is using a guitar as a metaphor for the heart. She is strumming on his heart strings at a very high level as if she is trained. And of course a trained musician is the best. So she is best at playing his heart strings and making him fall in love with her. --I doubt it is 'grade 8' in school since ed is British and you would say 'year' in the uk.

n the UK the musical exams are from 1 to 8, with grade 1 being the beginning level, and grade 8 being what is needed to enter high music college.
so he means she is playing(like a guitar)his heart like she is a "grade 8", or really good at it.

personally I think that this is all about ed's high school sweetheart, and they've met again, and he's fallen in love all over again. obviously most people are going to disagree because most people think that its something to do with the music levels, but I disagree.

Being an American, I immediately think of 8th grade, the end of middle school. So I think he is singing about that girl he was crushing on in 8th grade that has come back around to make him like her all over again.

    What do you guys think?

you guys are being silly her school goes from grade 1 to 12 therefore grade 8 is the beginning of high school. like you would call it year 8 or standard 8 or class 8

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

well this may or may not be right but to me this song means that because ed sheeran is a lover of music he is using it to express his feelings like he plays guitar a lot and strumming on your heart strings like you were a grade 8 obviously he likes some one and there playing with his feelings (they might be being nice or they might not be)and there is an emotional appeal hopefully i didnt ramble and if i did sorry and please dont hate me

Somebody's playing a guitar (metaphorically) so well that they're a grade 8 (a high level). They're strumming on his heartstrings so he's emotionally touched by what they're playing.
