Five Finger Death Punch: Blue On Black Meaning
Song Released: 2018
Blue On Black Lyrics
Skin, yeah, chilled me to the bone
You turned and you ran, oh yeah
Oh oh, slipped right from my hand
Yeah
Blue on black
Tears on a river
Push on a shove
It don't mean much
Joker on jack
Match on a fire
Cold on...

#1 top rated interpretation:I interpreted this song as "Nothing makes sense any longer" every thing doesn't make sense it's as senseless as Blue on Black two dominant colors being on one another is senseless, Tears on a river the small amount of just a few drops of extra water isn't going to change anything in a river! Push on a shove are 2 in the same nothing different! Cold on ice again nothing different 2 in the same it's all senseless! A dead man's touch there isn't anything to feel just stiff and cold again nothing makes sense it's all Senseless. Basically if 2020 were a song it'd be Blue On Black because nothing this year has made a bit of logical sense!!

#2 top rated interpretation:I simply see it about a realationship gone bad.
And trying to fix it is “ too little too late” like:
- blue in black
- a tear on a river
- cold on ice
- push on a shove
- etc
Essentially, an “effort in vain“ -

#3 top rated interpretation:Child abuse- "blue on black"stands for bruises."Slipped from the tip if my tongue" stands for verbal &/emotional abuse. As a victim of child abuse,I relate to the song...."can't be undone"...means you can't take back an unkind word nor a beating....growing up with abuse screws the child up FOREVER.

I interpret it very different then any comme ts o read to me it is a bad relationship the whisper in the streets mayb meaning cheating and I think blue on black means either the cops or the ambulance is coming and when they get there it's going to be a bad deal when they there
-
Haunting, thought-provoking-for REAL and poses defeat and hope at the same time. Like a labyrinth
-
This depresses depressed people into believing there is no hope. Way to go Shepard. I hope others get help.
-
I feel like it has to do deal with all the wrong things going on in the world that just has people questioning a lot of things. Blue on black can mean a relationship gone wrong and/or a relationship between other races and how it's trying to get people to come together however it's just cold as ice which means something will have to change or it'll just be repeated cycle on the world until the end of time.
-
For me the songs about the fact that at some point it really doesn't matter what you do, it already sucks, so embrace the suck!
...Crying in a flood doesn't raise the Water level -
Blue on Black has a couple different meanings to me , a bad relationship where your being abused and I've been there , and also losing a very close loved one , been there too. Lost my mom in 2016 and just like the song says , "push on a shove , whisper on a scream don't change a thing, dosent bring you back" it dosent bring the relationship back cuz it'll never be the same or your loved one.. it's just blue on Black.. I don't think it has anything to do with cops or racism. But everyone has their own opinion. But I think FFDP DOES AN AWESOME JOB ON THIS SONG! LOVE HOW HE FEELS THE LYRICS IN THE MUSIC! #1 FAN ALWAYS!

I think it is about something bigger hiding or consuming something else such as a feeling, sign, object, or truth.
-
There’s violence, physical, mental, nothing can change it. The metaphors, whisper on a scream, doesn’t change a thing, if you put cold on ice, match to a flame, ya not going to change the bigger picture. To late, can’t be undone. Abuse, neglect....
-
I hope it exactly how I interpreted it. Good job 5FDP for making an attempt to use you platform. I just listened cause Brantley Gilbert was in it but I'm now a new fan ..
Steve Dillow -
The police aspect on Blue on Black is the thin blue line flag.
-
Stevie Ray Vaughn wore a blue coat over his black clothes. The rest of the lyrics are poker terms that Kenny Wayne Shepard wrote into the song.

People aren't going to like this one. And it's not my opinion, just a possible interpretation. Taking from other interpretations, if "blue on black" does have to do with violence between cops and minorities, I think they are saying that type of violence is but a drop in a bucket compared to, say, black on black violence, or crime of another nature. Saying that something is like blue on black, they are saying it's a small percentage of a total larger scale of issues.
-
Whatever "blue on black" is, it's being portrayed as insignificant or an effort in vein. Just like a tear in a river, or putting cold on ice, it's an empty gesture that is essentially meaningless. They've lost someone and whatever the "blue on black" gesture is, it won't bring that person (or people) back.
-
It's the aftermath of a bad relationship. Everything mentioned relates to the excesses that ended the relationship and left the writer there alone.
