Five Finger Death Punch: I Refuse Meaning
I Refuse Lyrics
I don't wanna die alone
I don't wanna live forsaken
I refuse to let this go
Because my soul is breaking
I don't wanna let you know
That my heart is just so jaded
I refuse to let it show
I refuse to let it go
[Chorus]
Wake me...

#1 top rated interpretation:This song to me, speaks of someone who gets put through so much grief, strife, trauma and general depression as a whole, but still makes the effort to be the person others enjoy seeing. That they're crippled by their overwhelming anxiety and fears, but internalize them for those they care about. They don't want to give up and wants to believe their unfortunate circumstances are just a dream.
They want to be strong for those they care about, and that "I refuse" to give up. This song to me, is an anthem of internal suffering and perseverance, but still feeling so damaged and weak. -

#2 top rated interpretation:“I refuse to let this go because my soul is breaking,” meaning he knows his inner choices are hurting him, but doesn’t feel like his soul breaking is a valid reason to complain and ask for help to get over it.
Personally I think he is a person who is scared to let himself show because he might be rejected by his friends or anyone around him. So by not saying anything and by keeping it to himself, he is hurting inside but he also doesn't want to lose the people around him by opening his mouth. I think this song is about hurting inside and he isn't saying anything becuase he knows it isn't worth losing it all. -

#3 top rated interpretation:This song hits home to me. The hell I have seen, the war,the blood, the demons I have faced and continue to fight with. This is about someone who has no idea of how to free himself of the demons yet refuses to give into them. I have forgotten how to care and life becomes a dream as I go through the motions. I dont want to die alone, which is why that bullet stays on the shelf alone.
-
for me its someone who tries to hide what they feel inside and has no clue what there demons are but are trying to fight it and persevere/be happy despite being broken, believing that life is just a bad dream and giving up.
-
For me this is about someone who is fed up with letting their pain and damage dictate their life. It's time for a change and they have to figure out what's the right move for them.
I can picture them saying "I Refuse to let my issues define me any longer." -
This hits home for me my husbands been cheating for 10 of the 10 years we’ve been together. I found out when he was willing the girl he was paying for it didn’t want to come live with him he made a PoF profile and was starting a relationship with someone new. I feel this song down to my bones. I’ve lived 10 happy years feeling loved to find out it was all lies. You feel stuck between what you thought was real and what the now feels like is a nightmare. For me this song is someone betrayed contemplating suicide.
-
this song perfectly describes a male friend of mine who lost his love by hanging suicide. he struggles with wanting to be with her ( taking the fall) and remaining here to live for his kids . he refuses to let her go and is in between. very hard place to be . very well written song. he also looks similar to Ivan moody and struggles with his thoughts daily.
-
I picture it to be about a police officer, one with good morals, trying to push through when it feels like the whole world is against them. Someone suffering with the multitude of mental health issues that come with the job, while trying to hide those issues from everyone around them.
-
I believe it is about someone who has been the best person he could be to forgive others for the damage they have cause to his soul but he is refusing to give up! he's not God who forgives easily. living in this dream his soul is breaking. he is refusing to let his good soul go and becoming like all the self-righteous evil people in this world who doesn't care, he is tired of living in hell between heaven for God to take him before he takes his own life, I can also relate to ffdp remember everything because I had a mother and father who told me I was a mistake 1 brother 1 sister whom they favored and left me alone,
-
For me it sounds as if the writer is experiencing depression and thoughts of suicide. Strikes home for me because I fight these thoughts everyday there's never a reprieve of thinking why I shouldn't put a bullet through back of my head so I wakeup from my nightmare.
-
Maybe it's about a person who has lost everything and gets pushed back down no matter what. They try to get back up. But it seems like they are stuck in a void where there is no escape. They are too scared to pull the trigger and everyday they hope that they wake up and all of it was just a bad dream.
-
To me this song is about a person who had been through a lot in life, and refuses to tell anyone. They refuse to show their emotions. I think the wake me up means that the individual doesn't want to be this way, and he feels as if he is living life as a dream.
-
I think it some who is introverted and wants a relationship and needs help getting there but they refuse any help from anyone.
-
For me personally, when I heard the lyrics, I thought of a young man not knowing what he wants, but refusing to do one thing instead of the other and just wanting things to get better on their own rather than making them.
“I don’t wanna die alone,” meaning he wants the friends and relationships he has.
“I don’t wanna live forsaken,” meaning he doesn’t want to risk living as that friend or partner everyone forgets or leaves behind, because he knows if he told them the truth, they’d hate him for his truth.
“I refuse to let this go because my soul is breaking,” meaning he knows his inner choices are hurting him, but doesn’t feel like his soul breaking is a valid reason to complain and ask for help to get over it.
“I don’t wanna let you know that my heart is so jaded,” meaning he doesn’t want to be that annoying self-pitying person who annoys everyone.
He “refuses to let this show,” but he also “refuses to let it go,” so it will stop bothering him.
He’s “tired of living right here in between.” -
It's about a person who doesn't want anyone to know how they are feeling, they refuse everything. They want to live after they are gone on this earth.
Had an interpretation but being reviewed.
