Straight Out of Line Lyrics
There's no compromise
Change in seasons
Living the high life
I don't know you
So don't freak on me
I can't control you
You're not my destiny
Straight out of line
I can't find a reason

#1 top rated interpretation:It's pretty much an argument between a couple. Basically saying that I don't haft to explain myself to you and I'm tired of your shit. "I can't control you, your not my destiny"...your not the girl I'm looking for don't yell at me anymore because I don't care about you. I think that the girl cheated on him and now he's saying that she is his "tragedy". Then she is trying to talk and lie her way out of telling him what really happened, and he isn't buying into it.
I think of this song like right as it starts out, just a big fight between the couple, like the same rhythm and everything. If you have been in an argument with a parent, or girlfriend/boyfriend you will know and feel this song as I do, just its tone and rhythm just is pissed off and is tired of bullshit lol..awesome some though..speaks the truth [if someone is going to fuck you over, fuck them you don't need to waste your time]. <-------basic idea of this song =) -
I think this is a shot at record labels. Their first album was great, and they probably got offers that didn't sustain. So to follow it up, they wrote an awesome song, telling them they fucked up!!

Dan's interpretation is so simplistic and shallow that I think it would insult the writer. He's probably singing about heroin. One clue would be in the video where he's wrapping his arm up with the microphone cable.
