Gorillaz: Rhinestone Eyes Meaning
Song Released: 2002
Rhinestone Eyes Lyrics
That you made with plastic power
Your rhinestone eyes are like factories far away
Where the paralytic dreams that we all seem to keep
Drive on engines 'til they weep
With future pixels in factories far...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:In my opinion, it's about the loss of true nature and the natural to man-made trash. Everything is being replaced by consumerism and factories and man-made cities are sprawling out, spreading out. No one even knows how to react to nature anymore, which is dying because of pollution--global warming is mentioned: So call the mainland from the beach, Our pod is now washed up in bleach" ... "And nobody knows what to do with the heat, Under sunshine pylons we'll meet."
Everything is smoke from factories ("scary gargoyle on a tower") and pollution.
Even rain is compared to cheap rhinestones, and man is 'future pixels in factories far away'.
However, the most telling line is-- "Nature's corrupted in factories far away." -
so im pretty confident this song is about global warming and pollution. "that you made with plastic power" is like a company that became huge by using single-use plastic. also "and nobody knows what to do with the heat" is like how global warming is making it more and more hot every year.

the song is about Murdoc missing noodle, hence the "Your rhinestone eyes are like factories far away" Murdoc also calls himself a scary gargoyle and he calls himself this because the fear people get when they see him, more notably 2D . He also talks about how the pirates attack everyday
(That's electric)
Helicopters fly over the beach
Same time everyday, same routine
Clear target in the summer when skies are blue
It's part of the noise when winter comes
It reverberates in my lungs
Nature's corrupted in factories far away (that's electric)
in the last few words in the song he talks about how much he misses and loves noodle and how he wants to see her again -
I heard the song was about Paula Cracker 2-D's former girlfriend. But I think since Merdoc wrote the album plastic beach it speaks about relationships in general. Paula Cracker didn't care about 2-D. People say that the eyes are the window to the soul and rhinestones are fake diamonds thus the lyric "rhinestone eyes" it represents her facade. The lyrics"I'm a scary gargoyle on a tower that you made with plastic power" represent how 2-D made the band what it is today because he is the "pretty boy" of the band and how the time he was frightened of Murdoc. Just to be clear I know 2-D sang most of the lyrics but Murdoc wrote the song and Murdoc is the scary gargoyle.
