Song Released: 2002
Tomorrow Comes Today Lyrics
(we) Got no camera to see
Don't think I'm not all in this world
The camera won't let me go
And the verdict doesn't love our soul
The digital won't let me go
Yeah yeah yeah
I'll pay (yeah yeah yeah)
When...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:I'd say that it's more like, the world is getting too technological and if we aren't careful we will pay for it when tomorrow becomes today.
Also, I think it may have something to do with the fact that the Gorillaz are cartoon characters and he is saying, "Don't think I'm not in this world" Because there is a person behind the persona, and maybe when he says, "The camera won't let me go" it's because he is just a cartoon and the cartoon persona doesn't exist off camera. -
I believe he is saying even thought he is physically present, his mind is not focused on the real world. Kind of like day dreaming continously or rarely living in the moment or being disconected.
-
all the mechanics hate him and all of what you do today you do tomorrow like watching tv and doing the same the next day. well,Peace out!
-
Well ...
I just posted an interpretation,
and after watching the video
(I only listened before) ...
I change my mind(somewhat);
It is perhaps not detailed towards
him specifically ... more as an
attitude or what goes on with/when
'Tomorrow comes Today'
I definitely still feel certain about
the main message/in the interpretation of
"Tomorrow comes today" ...
meaning ...
All Of Your 'Today's'
Are Already
'Tomorrow's'
Spending tomorrow on what you put off today
- biding your time &
not ever having an
authentic "Today" -
it's already spent/used up ...
... either by having fun & ignoring it, or
juggling with painful & unresolved issues;
staying 'stuck' and 'ignoring' day, after day ...
... and paying the price for it!
In this video he (we);
"Everybody's here with me"
as in your friend's or whatever it is you're caught up in, is what/why you blow off all else;'responsibilities'...
it's 'so what' no big deal - can always make up for it later (next day; tomorrow).
"Got no camera to see" - not paying attention to what's going on all around (the world) even --
And this world isn't hep to me either -"verdict doesn't love our soul"
"Digital won't let me go" - progression, he's saying;'out of the loop' & be paying for choice (mistake) sooner than you realize; when it all blows up in your
face; today is already tomorrow ..
and. perhaps not much faith in the World; it's outcome ...
so best just to 'enjoy'/ have fun (right) -
"Stereo I want it on"
because -
(the world isn't 'long for this world')- ... meaning;
"don't think I'll be here too long". -
How I interpret this song ~
Everybody's here with me:
/It's all good now/
(we) Got no camera to see :
/media, staying in the public eye, etc.
is not in (their) control to predict 'future' of this movement/ ...
Don't think I'm not all in this world : /knows he is not 'the end all be all'/
And/Or: part of 'himself' is 'outside'
of himself; it's 'crazy'; wrapping mind around 'this me' ~ empire/
And the verdict doesn't love our soul : /and doesn't want/expect to be.
Comes at a sacrifice; price to pay/
The digital won't let me go :
/the nature of the business; management, media, trends; 'positioning', the lime-light, life on the road, etc. comes with the territory (it's a 'must' to be/stay successful/
[but also is a double-edge sword that can/will drive you insane - cannot foresee
ability to withstand that for ?? time;
the personal toll it's taking] ...
Yeah yeah yeah - I'll pay
When Tomorrow comes today :
/in one fell swoop (in a day) could all end. And be left to deal with that, then.
Stereo I want it on :
/music - yes!; that is not the perplexing element; as an artist-musician, not a 'choice' - is innate- necessary/
It's taken me far too long :
/gaining and reaching success is a long hard struggle,'trickier' to remain there/ ...
That '15' minutes of fame could be over
at any time ...
Loves having it but also realizes
(various factors); won't necessarily
always be 'sitting pretty' -
Tomorrow comes today =
All my today's are already tomorrow's - being pulled in all directions;
it's hard to keep track of just
having a true 'Today'.
[stay on the 'island' to contend with all the other shit (good/bad/otherwise)
didn't really bargain for, but it is what it is and tries to remain 'true to self'
His 'mocking' us is testing the masses, ability to understand this and not really
giving a shit because it's all about the music - however, sets him 'apart' anyway -
and he's just saying, 'hey', "Do you get it? Without you we have no real level of
success and I"m just 'living' my life too - but it's 'twisted' man."] -
I agree with one of the anonymous comments. I think Damon Albarn or 2D is thinking of leaving,or maybe even killing himself, because he will soon pay for it.
-
He smiles at the beginning and says how everybody is with him. He's referring to the fascade of how we think celebrity life is great. Then he reveals how he constantly has to perform and impress an audience who don't really appreciate him as a person. And by saying tomorrow comes today he is pretty much saying he is running out of time to break away from this.
-
Tomorrow Comes Today is basically very clear. I think it means that he committed a crime, and was caught on tape. The camera doesn't lie. He says he thinks he's sane. The footage is damning. He's waiting for the verdict in court, song takes place the day before the hearing. He is listening to himself, and it has taken too long to figure out that he's a little crazy. He doesn't believe that he'll be alive for long, he thinks they'll give him life. He knows he is going to pay for what he did.

My interuption.
"Everybody's here with me
(we) Got no camera to see "
I believe this means someone's friends before they become famous, such as the Gorillaz recording their first album.
"Don't think I'm not all in this world
The camera won't let me go"
This means the person got caught up in popularity, and they are followed by paparazzi.
"And the verdict doesn't love our soul
The digital won't let me go"
I think this means that people only love you because your famous, and they can't leave the lifestyle easily.
"Yeah yeah yeah
I'll pay (yeah yeah yeah)
When tomorrow
Tomorrow comes today"
this means he's paying for the actions he made in the future today.
"Stereo I want it on
It's taken me far too long
Don't think I'm not all in this world
I don't think I'll be here too long"
this means the persons dreams to have a record on CD, or stereo, but it took him too long to make it. Also, one of the creator's has stated that they aren't happy to be making more Gorillaz stuff. he actually stated he was annoyed to be drawing them again.
"I don't think i'll be here to long."
to me, this means the singer has contemplated leaving, or killing himself to avoid the lifestyle.

I think you have to view this song as the animated band...I think they are talking about how they want to break out of the animation world and into the real worl. This will happen when the irrational becomes real (tomorrow comes today)
-
I just realized he smiles throughout (or at least looks smug) this whole song so I pretty much agree with every one so far but I think 2D and the res are mocking us by doing that and having cool poses. Thats because he is assuming that nobody's really listening to the lyrics.
-
It can mean many things but I see it as a "I figured out what I'm going to do with my life" kind of song.
