Incubus: I Miss You Meaning
I Miss You Lyrics
Is a gift I didn't think could be real.
To know that you feel the same as I do
Is a three-fold, Utopian dream.
You do something to me that I can't explain.
So would I be out of line if I said,
"I miss you"?
I see...

#1 top rated interpretation:It's about someone who got to be with the person they've always loved and they're so happy, then he/she leaves and the person misses them like crazy because they mean the world to them.
"You have only been gone 10 days, but already I'm wasting away" is saying that he can't live without her. Everything he does reminds him of her, and how much he misses her. But he's not giving up "I know I'll see you again, whether far or soon," he knows he has a chance and that she's worth it if she feels the same way for him. It would be perfect and it would mean the world to him.
At the end he says: "but I need you to know that I care and I miss you," how else can you say I LOVE YOU. He'll never forget about her and he'll never stop loving her.
I love this song, it's my favorite song ever! -
All it means is that the writer misses his lover because she left and he knows that they will see each other soon but he just wants her to know that she is still in his mind and he misses her

I am in such a position. My girlfriend left for the other side of the world for a few years after a strong relationship together beforehand.
To see you when I wake up, is a gift I didn't, think'd be real:
This clearly states that to see his lover upon awakening is something that he truly wants. A "gift"
To know that you feel the same, as I do, is a three-fold Utopian dream:
Basically, this states that knowing that this person loves the writer as much as the writer loves this person is three times better than the perfect dream (The Rule of Three (also threefold law or law of return) is a tenet of Wicca. claiming that whatever energy a person puts out into the world, be it positive or negative, will be returned to that person three times.)
You did something to me, that I can't explain: (Spen edit: it's actually you DO something to me)
The person did something to the writer that he may not understand, or be able to put into words, but it's effect upon him was massive
So Would I be out of line, if I said, I miss you?:
The writer is asking if he would be wrong, or out of place upon telling the person that he misses them, after having this effect on him
I see your picture, I smell your skin on the empty pillow, next to mine:
A lot of the normal things that the writer does in life are bringing this person to mind again and again, because of what they left behind, or the memories they recall
You have only been gone ten days, but already I'm wasting away:
Pretty self explanatory. The person has been away for a short while, but already the writer is "Wasting away"
I Know I'll See you again, whether far or soon:
The writer knows that they will re-unite, whether in a short time or long time
But I need you to know, That I care, and I miss you:
The writer wishes for this person to know that, despite the distance, they're still on the writers mind, and that the writer misses this person a great deal.
An amazing song, one of the first I heard from Incubus, and at the moment, one that I can really relate to. It helps to remind me how I feel towards my girlfriend, and that in the end, we'll be reunited again =]
