something clearly happened to Brandon when he was 23. It's mentioned in this song as well as Pardon Me. My guess is that it was a turning point in his life. Okay onto the interpretation... the narrator is a young singer but instead of just saying that, he says "I'm not a preacher or sinner all I have is slight of hand, I do magic tricks for all the boys in the band" He's just met a girl he admires and wonders if he could be the one for her. - Baby could I be the rabbit in your hat? I'd swing if you hand me the bat. Meaning if she would give him a chance, he would certainly take a shot. Chorus: I'm the on the road... he's just going with the flow and not forcing what he wants because he is afraid of a committment. Promise me only one thing and that's to not make me promises because then, I won't believe you anymore. He's never been in this position before but he's enjoying the thought of being with this girl however, she disappears quite easily or slips though his fingers. He wonders why she is being so elusive and asks her to spend time with him but says it by saying "what are you running from? may I interfere?
Deals with a first love perhaps... breakup song... getting together song. let's just be friends... take your pick. This can go alot of ways. Again with the 23 reference.... hmmm.
