John Mayer: Clarity Meaning
Song Released: 2004
Clarity Lyrics
I worry, I throw my fear around
But this morning, there's a calm I can't explain
The rock candy's melted, only diamonds now remain
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
By the time I recognize this moment
This moment will...
-
This last line says it all "And I will waste no time
Remaining in our lives together"
He is talking about relationships never lasting forever. IF you believe that, then they will not. -
I feel like when he says,
"So much wasted in the afternoon,
So much sacred in the month of June"
Mayer omitted the word 'time.'
He wants us to figure out that time is the whole theme of the song, whether it be wasting time, cherished time, stressful time, easy time, etc. I think he wants to tell us to slow down and breathe because nothing lasts forever. -
The guy above has got it ^
I'm just saying that this song should be useful in life. Mostly for people that are leaving something they really enjoyed the most.
"I worry, I weigh three times my body
I worry, I throw my fear around
But this morning, there's a calm I can't explain
The rock candy's melted, only diamonds now remain"
just in case your anxiety or fears come in, they will be that nice feeling right there. Though, I have to say that rock candy part is a beautiful metaphor.
"By the time I recognize this moment
This moment will be gone
But I will bend the light, pretend that it somehow lingered on
Well all I got's"
This of course foreshadows to the chorus. But the important thing about this is that those moments should be in your records and should still be believed that it exists or that it happened so that your + mood won't drop down. thats why it should be cherished.
the rest of the song is pretty easy to find out. -
Clarity for me is about realizing the little moments in life that we sometimes take for granted. The chorus "And I will wait to find.....if this will last forever. And i will pay no mind when it wont and it wont because it can't...." to me John is saying many things. This is a vague statement but can be relative to anyone. John is amazing and i wish i had songwriting capabilities like him. that is why I can relate to this song so much. Being a musician is like being a elaborate daydreamer. Because i know this feeling wont last forever. By the end of the song you realize the music combined with John's vocals are too much to handle and you have a mindgasim or joy. Goosbumps if you will because that feeling is so familiar. His voice makes you feel like you have been there feeling those same feelings he was when the song was created....which is pretty cool for sound to do that if you ask me
