New Deep Lyrics

I'm so alive
I'm so enlightened
I can barely survive
A night in my mind
I've got a plan
I'm gonna find out just how boring I am
And have a good time

Cause ever since I tried
Trying not to find
Every little meaning in my life
It's been...

    This song is sarcastic.
    "Numb is the new deep"
Depth of character is something most of us were taught to value.
This song is about the conflict between overthinking, being too deep to relate, overestimating one's insight (I'm sooo enlightened...), and also not wanting to go along with the seemingly shallow and vacuous alternative. Kind of a lament, typical of that age's development, having not quite settled into a good balance between the two extremes.

For me the lyrics of this song speak to my own personal struggle with being over-sensitive. And how much more free one could feel if they could just stop trying to overanalyze and empathize because when you are an overly sensitive person, over analyzing rarely results in a solution and empathy is a double edged sword.

This song is about wondering about everything about how it can take over your mind. Whether the issue is does God really exist or why that last realationship did not work out the only outcome is going to be a sore head and no answers. John's solution is simply to stop wondering and worrying about the things we simply can not find answers for and life will be a lot simpler and easier. 'Numb is the new deep.'
