#1 top rated interpretation:To me this song is about two people who were once in passionate love but have found that their relationship is actually "doomed." It's not just that they didn't work out. They both obviously cared about each other and wanted it to work. But they were living in denial. They were slow dancing in a burning room. AKA they knew they weren't working but refused to leave the hurt and pain.

#2 top rated interpretation:To me this song is detailing the destruction of a relationship. All these things are happening in and around the couple that point to separation but they are still going through the motions like a slow dance.
I wish it was about two lovers so engrossed in each other that a room could be burning around them but dont even notice the heat because the heat between the two of them is so much hotter. -
The room both standing for the actual structure of the relationship as well as the environment which these 2 lovers find themselves. They cling to the familiarity of their codependence as they can obviously "dance" and have a connection or relate on a certain frequency, but at the cost of veratable all encompasing swift destruction by fire. The moment before 'the tower' card moment in a relationship. The last gasp
