I think it's about someone who was in a relationship and they broke up but one of the people who was in that relationship still loves the other person but they are not going back to that relationship so they feel hopeless and empty that their not there besides them everyday.

I think the song means that you still love someone even if they’re gone or had to move away. That person is realizing what it’s like to not have that person there beside you.
