Kelly Clarkson: Already Gone Meaning
Song Released: 2009
Already Gone Lyrics
Now all our memories, they're haunted
We were always meant to say goodbye
Even with our fists held high
It never would have worked out right, yeah
We were never meant for do or die...
I didn't want us to...

#1 top rated interpretation:"Already Gone" is about loving someone but having to let them go. This couple has tried to save their relationship, but no matter what they do, it doesn't work out. They care and have respect for each other but can't be together for a reason that is never clarified in the song. The narrator knows that being together is only hurting them both and to save herself and her partner from pain, she cuts off the relationship.
With that in mind, the lyrics should pretty much explain themselves. -
Kelly's current lover is a typical square boring guy and she's found a man who excites her and even though he "couldn't have lover her better" she leaving to pursue something with the new guy. Shes already cheating the new guy "so you can't make it feel right when you know it wrong" and shes "already gone" eludes to the same. The "poison set in" is her losing attraction for him. No one is "already gone" with someone you love its illogical. This song is about a woman who has lost feelings for her current lover and tosses his behind to the curb.

When I hear this, I hear the story of two people who love each other very much, but something about that love is toxic (“but then we could feel the poison set in”). Perhaps he was liar, or a cheat, or maybe things just could never be, and so they “couldn’t keep this love alive”, even though things were otherwise almost perfect.
The singer has clearly come to terms with the fact that things will never be and sees that the other isn’t strong enough to leave, so she knows she has to be the one to do it.
So for me this song is about being strong enough to let go of someone you love, and loving them enough to hope they “find another” and how sometimes love alone isn’t enough to conquer all the baggage we carry.
Leaving someone you love, who loves you too is one of the hardest things you’ll ever have to do, because you really do have to trust that something better awaits you both and that’s hard when you both truly love each other, even when things are toxic. And saying goodbye to someone you love is painful, because you know you’ll never see them again….and in this way it is truly a death of another kind. We are all haunted by ghosts of relationships past, the ones who hurt us, the ones we hurt, all the could of’s, should of’s and wish we would of’s… -
I agree with all post regarding the meaning of this song. But when you truly fall in love and are in love, there is no giving up on your partner, but to improve for yourself and the relationship. In other words, you grow through the challenges. When you are truly in love with your partner, you will move mountains!

I’m a lonely person in Oklahoma.
I say lonely because I’ve been in a 22 year relationship that has been dead for 12 years. We sleep in desperate beds, and still have a damaged relationship but it’s just dead in many ways. I cry every time I hear this song because I need to be “already gone” but,, I can’t bring myself to crush the other person. I feel like they would never make it without me. I feel so sad like a prisoner. I feel we were meant for eternity. So if they pass before I do, I’ll be able to move on. I just don’t have the heart to end it. I hope someone in the world feels my pain... I feel like I’m the only one in this dead relationship boat. I cry frequently alone.. also, to top it off, due to a series of life events over the last 7-10 years, we both are isolated, introverted. Have no more family and are estranged from any remaining family. I feel like I live on an island alone with a silent distant stranger. God if your reading this, please rescue us both and give us a peaceful and kind happy mutual ending when it’s time. But this is a beautiful song. It’s just sad when your life and relationship is trapped and dead. -
Already Gone is about a relationship that has ended.
For the recent post, too personal to share on this site. You better say this to your ex-gf and not to everyone who visits this site.
If you are brave, what you told here about her, tell it to her, and not tell it to those who visits this site.
Come to think of it, if you really loved each other, you guys should have been honest and laid all the cards on the table from the start, than loving each other for two years, and ending it, and telling each other to forget about the love you had shared for two years!
The question is? how about what you want in a relationship? Anyways, may you guys find what you are looking for in a relationship!
Not in a relationship

I just lived this myself. The song is from the point of the relationship breaker. I recently broke up with my girlfriend of 2 years. Although we loved each other very much, I knew in my heart our destinies were not aligned. I had to bravely make the decision to end things in order to prevent deeper pain in the future because I knew I could not give her what she wanted in a relationship. Although it pained me to hurt her, I broke things off because I loved her and wanted her to be free to open her life to another guy that could fulfill her dreams in a way I could not.

Heard this for the first time yesterday 11/10/18, I know, I am behind. I love sad songs and this is my new favorite. Very sad if she is just walking away as most have said. Looks to me like she committed suicide, (spilt wine) and her ghost is singing and making one last visit. Saddest song that I have ever heard by far!

This song is about a breakup but in the video it’s shows what looks to be a funeral home and whenever she looks in to a mirror you can’t see her reflection so I think that Kelly has died and when you carefully listen to the song it sounds like she has died
-
I think that she is pulling away from a relationship because things didn't work out so she is already gone
-
This song is about how she loves him so much, but know that it wasn't meant to be. So she slowly pulls away from the realtionship knowing it wasn't going to work out, even though they tried. She knows that she loves him so much and just wants the best for the both of them and is Already Gone from it.
-
They both love each other, and she wants the best for him. She believes that breaking up is the best option in the long term, because she doesn't see the relationship lasting forever. She loves him enough to let him go, and wishes that he will move on.
She is making it easy for him, so she will end the relationship for them, she is "already gone". -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
This song is self-explanatory. She loves him enough to let him go. They're going their seperate ways. It didn't work out, so they must move on.
-
The way I see it, this is about two people who didn't mean to fall in love, but did even though the relationship would never work and so now she's telling him she still loves him, but "someone has to say goodbye" so she's "already gone".
