Kelly Clarkson: People Like Us Meaning
Song Released: 2013
People Like Us Lyrics
But know that we are not alone
They try and knock us down
But change is coming, it's our time now
Hey... everybody loses it,
Everybody wants to throw it all away sometimes
And hey... yeah I know what you're...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:This song seems to sound like to not try to let the bullies win, like committing suicide or running away. "It's hard to get high when you're living on the bottom!" Sounds like she is saying that nobody can help you out from the bottom, you have to do it yourself no matter how hard it is. "You'll make it out alive!" Sounds like she is saying don't commit suicide, that you have to keep hope no matter what.

I think it is to all the misfits of the world. People who stand out or act different. If they have a disability, or a handicap like me. Or if they are smart or bad or just plain different. It is to encourage them to live their life and not care what other people think.

This song somehow made me think about the LGBT+ community. Like, basically, those people are (sadly) considered as ''misfits'' just because of who they are, or who they love. I first heard the lyrics, and a little person in my head started to jump like ''Hey, it might be LGBT, right ?'' Then I looked up the official video and I keep thinking that LGBT+ might be included in this. You all know the most popular flag, right ? The rainbow one. There's also one for the heterosexual, with black and white stripes. Almost all the video is in black and white, except when it shows Kelly singing, or the little girl. She's the only one in color in there, but then she is joined by an undercover scientist. So, knowing what both flags looks like, my mind figured it out, and now I think this is at least one of the meanings of this song. (BTW I'm not an English person, so be aware that this is surely not grammaticaly perfect :) )

Kelly is trying to speak out to all the other outcasts out there who are getting bullied and wants to let them know they're not alone and have the full potential to be better in the long run. She says" misfits, list, forgotten, unknown and d*mned." Outcasts are better in the long run. Look how far she's came. Thank you Kelly for your great music and inspirational themes.

I think this song is about learning to keep your head high and be proud of who you are on the inside. The song calls out to the "misfits", to "the damned, the lost, and the forgotten", telling them to reject the world and rejoice in who they truly are. A truly inspirational and relatable tune.
