Melanie Martinez: The Contortionist Meaning
The Contortionist Lyrics
Two of them in knots and two of them in loops
Ribbons tied around like a noose
Wonder if I'll ever get it loose
I don't wanna bruise for you
Holding back my words until my face is blue
I don't really care about...

It sounds like she was struggling when was “bones are crushing” and in a toxic relationship where the boyfriend is trying to protect her and she now wanting it and to be free so she try to make him happy the best she can but it’s doesn’t work and she finds out stuff that’s he has been doing so she tries to do everything to get his attention

This song is about being a people pleaser. You want to do anything you can to please someone, even if that requires you to “twist all of your limbs” for them. The person Martinez sings about is most likely an awful person, but she feels trapped in the relationship. She feels that if she doesn’t do everything this person wants she’s the awful person.
