Melanie Martinez: Gingerbread Man Meaning
Gingerbread Man Lyrics
I don't need a man to make my life sweet.
Prince Charming, just isn't the one that I think I need.
You're thirsty, you think I give out all my shit for free.
I'm bursting, out laughing at idiocy.
I need a Gingerbread Man, the...

#1 top rated interpretation:Guys are always breaking Crybaby's heart. She's sick of all the fake love and wants to be in a real relationship. She probably wants a guy to have sex with.
One of the lines, "You're thirsty, you think I give out all my shit for free, I'm bursting, laughing at idiocy." Which probably means guys think they can win Crybaby and have sex with her easily. And she laughs at them for acting like idiots.
She says she needs a "Gingerbread Man". She wants someone who loves her and doesn't just want her for sex. -

#2 top rated interpretation:I think what Crybaby is trying to say when she says "I need a Gingerbread Man" She's saying she needs someone who can be in a real relationship with her. If you know Crybaby as in the character, she has several exes and a lot of them, if not all of them, weren't as she wished them to be. When she says "The One I'll feed" and "The one I'll eat" she's saying she needs a man who she can actually express her feelings for and a man who can show her how much he loves her back.
This was my first time, so I hope it's not to bad :-) -

#3 top rated interpretation:I feel like she wants to be seen as anything but a child (she's been called Crybaby all her life by her family and peers and the name stuck like glue). "One who's always crazy, Never calls me baby that's the one that I want, All you boys are not him" I think Crybaby wants to be seen as a woman and her older Gingerbread Man gives her that special attention and "loves her harder" than any boy could.
-
Personally I think it’s about crybaby going through relationships and being around men using her for her body not bothering to explore deep into her. However she wants a man who is not just in for her body but for her, herself and pushes the rest of them away. And the ending of the song explains how she wants sex with a man like that.
-
I think that Crybaby has simply tired of loving men who can't seem to reciprocate that same love to her. In the song "Cake" Crybaby is frustrated with an unknown boy who uses her for you-know-what and then simply ignores her. She also states that if she is just a piece of cake then the boy is nothing but a piece of meat meaning she finds him replaceable. I think the song "Cake" was really a turning point for Crybaby and she decides to "turn off" her desire for a serious and healthy relationship. So by the time we get to the song Gingerbread Man she has already given up and wants nothing more to do with a man other than you-know-what.
-
Cry Baby had a list of ex lovers who used her for sexual pleasure, and she was sick of it. So she decided that two could play at that game, and decided that she wanted a partner who wanted her for her body so that she wouldn't have her heart broken.
-
I think when 'cry baby' says " can't you see I only want the ones who never see me, but I'm happy I love playing these games until my heart bleeds" I relate to that verse so much, I think she is saying she chases after guys who do not give the same energy back, in fact, they probably ignore her, therefore, they arent giving the attention she is looking for, so she doesn't get bored, that's how I understand it and I love this song because I relate to it so much.
-
I think what she really meant is that she want a man that is rough, and is worthy of her, uhmm.. everything (that is refered to as a 'gingerbread man') and not as gentle as those 'prince charmings' that is only a wolf dressed as a sheep.
-
I think that she is just sick of fake love and just wants to be loved by someone but all of these boy think they can just easily use her for (well you know) and maybe even her fame. People should treat our queen better :(
-
i think its about loving guys who doesn't love her back and trying to get their love or attention and it hurts her " but i'm happy i love playing this games until my heart bleeds "
-
Crybaby probably wants to fall in love with somebody who's good enough for her. Somebody to have sex with. But none of the guys are good enough for her and don't start a relationship.
-
I think that cry baby is tierd of all the " prince charming" the guys that say love her and then end up breaking her heart and she wants someone that she can have sex with and not be in a relation ship.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

i really think desperation is behind all of it. melanie may be imperfect but its ok to have desires. i mean we all are looking for love in the wrong places and for the wrong reasons. thats why she writes these songs to learn a life lesson that maybe she learned the hard way.
-
She wants to eat the guy I think.
-
Loves just not there at the moment. But lust clouds her and all she want is another man with the look of lust. Or you know love but men don’t love her in that sense back.

-
In Summary: She's tired of all the "prince charmings" breaking her heart so she just wants a guy who she can have sex with and nothing more
