Melanie Martinez: Pity Party Meaning
Pity Party Lyrics
Why'd I put my heart on every cursive letter?
Tell me why the hell no one is here
Tell me what to do to make it all feel better
Maybe it's a cruel joke on me
Whatever, whatever
Just means there's way more cake...

#1 top rated interpretation:Crybaby threw a party and invited all her friends to come. But nobody showed up. And she was feeling sad because she was all alone.
She calls it her "Pity Party" because it's pity that she's all alone and crying cause of it. She set up all these things for everybody yet still nobody came.
It seems like Crybaby throws a huge fit. She started laughing and crying because she was so upset. And she wants to cry till she stops. -

#2 top rated interpretation:Pity Party is about not just throwing a party and no one shows up, but because this is about Crybaby, if you listen to the first song in the Crybaby album, there's one part that kind of refers to Pity Party: "You're all on your own and you lost all your friends". And then you go back to Pity Party, you see her all alone at her house, throwing herself the biggest dang Pity Party in the world because nobody showed up. Even her closest friends and the boy of her dreams.

#3 top rated interpretation:This song is clearly a metaphor for disillusionment and loneliness. People whom she trusted and loved couldn't even make it to her birthday party.
-
The meaning of Pity Party extends past the childish scenario of being alone on your birthday party even after sending out invitations. We see Crybaby (Adult Melanie Martinez) lashing out and smashing her cake to pieces. At the end, she blows out candles and smokes a cigarette, a juxtaposition between child and the adult part of ourselves. This touches on the pity parties even adults experience when they are faced with betrayal and loneliness.
-
Of course the meaning to the song in the album is crybaby threw a party and nobody showed up so she cried thinking about an amazing giant party till the candles on her real cake burnt down her house but the real meaning behind the song is when someone is driven to insanity.
-
I believe that the song is about how crybaby threw a party and nobody came. This is the moment she snapped and started to imagine a giant party in her honor until the candles on her real cake burn her house down. this would lead to Mad Hatter.
-
This song is quite relatable for me my name is Amiana and in 6th grade I wasn’t very popular I threw a big birthday party thinking that would somehow help me and no one showed up but 1 girl her name was Olivia and she was always a bully to me but she came and apologized and we became best friends this is what the song means to me
-
Crybaby throws a birthday party for herself, but when her friends and her crush don’t show up, she turns it into a pity party.

Cry baby invited her friends and even her crush but no one came to her party and was lonely and sad so she destroyed everything and saying "I'm laughing,I'm crying it feels like I'm dying" and she kept repeating it she's sad and lonely and no one showed up to her pity party so she destroyed everything and it made her feel sad that she tried her best to decorate and make everything perfect but no one showed up
-
Crybaby invites everyone to her party, but no one shows up. She wonders why this is, and wonders why she spent so much time making everything perfect. She's so sad that she destroys everything and smashes her cake to pieces. She feels trapped in a cursed world, and doesn't want anyone to tell her to stop crying. 'Candles' and 'Flames' are metaphors that Crybaby want's to burn her sadness away, but at the same time just wants to cry. She's so lonely she's going insane; she feels like she's dying. The whole song is saying that no one showing up to Crybaby's party was the last straw, and loneliness has taken over her; she honestly doesn't care anymore.
-
I think Crybaby is upset because no one showed up to her party. She's all alone and she lost her. So she's crying cause she's alone.
-
I think the song represents not just a party. It represents life in general. Feeling alone. Crybaby might have friends, but maybe she tried to share her feelings with them and they didn’t care about her being sad or upset. She feels unimportant and alone because no one seems to care. This caused her to lose her friends. My evidence is the song “Crybaby”. This is her trying to cope with the fact that she lost all of her friends.

Oh i get it, she was lonely, she just wanted some friends, because why would anyone hate and ignore a miserable person? That’s just pretty mean, I would team up with her, if I was a new character myself. If you guys won’t clean your dirty actions together, figure it out by yourself, your problem, not anyone’s. Just because someone is lonely, doesn’t mean they’re miserable, doesn’t mean that they are ugly, and it doesn’t mean that they’re “childish” that’s insane!

It's about people we consider as friends but when we need them they dissapear. She invited her "friends" but nobody came...
-
Melanie "Crybaby" threw a party and she invited her boyfriend johnny and some friends....nobody showed up-_- this song is expressing her going crazy because nobody showed up to her party! I would go crazy too!
