My Chemical Romance: You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison Meaning
You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison Lyrics
In the center of a restaurant
They say come with your arms raised high
Well they're never gonna get me
I'm like a bullet through a flock of doves
To wage
This war against your faith in me
Your life will never...

This song isn't about being gay it's about the things they do to you in prison not necessarily rape but any abuse you go through in jail even that inflicted by officials.

It is a well known fact that Gerard Way is NOT gay but in fact Bisexual. He and the lead singer of The Used (Bert McCraken? if that's how you spell it) did date for a while but never really did "it"
Gerard has also never been to prison.
Also.. HAHA to who ever said Gerard would have enjoyed the activited going on in prison... you obviously have no common sense.. It's prison.. Think about it. -
First of all, the Gerard being gay thing is getting retarded. He's not gay, but if he was, why would you give a fuck?
Anyway, the song...
Well, it's kinda obvious from the title. Prison rape. O.o -
Gerard said in a show on youtube (I don't know which one but bert came out and sang with him) that its a song about prison and sex with men....thats it quit all the bullshit about Gerard is gay...who fucking cares if he is or isn't that's not what the fucking point of this website is. Its lyric interpretations....not argueifpeoplearegay.com

Im just wanting to say, all the people who think they're gay are possibly not completely wrong. Their target audience is mostly the sad subculture of emos, even though MCR say that they are a plain pop- rock band. So because emos are their target, there is always the possibility that some of the band could be bisexuals. Plainly because a majority of the emo culture are bisexual also, making the band seem more like they are relating to the audience. Its just a way of connecting to the public, marketing.

In reply to the last comment, yes, Gerard may be gay, and if so that does not mean he would like these activities in the prison. for example, I'm a heterosexual female, but that does not mean I'd like to be raped by a male stranger.

This song is comparing Hell To Prison. It even starts off with how the character got to Hell in the first place... In the middle of a gunfight. He wasn't called out by the police, but the devil.

I think it has been established that this song has to do with being in prison. As for my interpretation, it sounds to me like the chorus is talking about someone with mixed feelings about sex(?) with another man. Through out the entire song there is a very prominent undertone of fear "I miss my mom, will they give me the chair, a lethal injection, a swing from a rope if you dare". Prison rape is definitely present as well. As for Bert and Gerard and this song, it is really unclear as to what happened between them, but I know that when Gee went sober, Bert got really mad. This song was recorded before that happened. Also, if you look in the booklet that comes with the CD, Gerard says in his thanks "Thank you to Bert, for being my cellmate". Bert has vocals in this song, just so you know. Make of it what you will.

To the person who said gerards the only one who writes lyrics: in an interview it was stated that ray writes most of the lyrics
to the people who think calling someone gay is an insult: its only an insult if you make it an insult. He did say in a video he was gay, but he may or may not have been lying as the question was what turned them on and everyone said weird things, for example someone said slippers.
and yeah the songs got to have something to do with being gay in prison -
Well, I'm not quite sure but if I had to guess, I'd say it is about some guy whose father takes him to the city to see a marching band and that inspires him to live his life to the fullest and help those that need it

Gerard is not gay. but if he was, so freaking what? HE IS FREAKING HOTT AS HELL! Gerard isn't bi either. He is just.. well..different. Frank and Gerard got dared to kiss and they didn't so the guys called them a couple of chickens till they couldn't take it any more and so they did. My sister and I meant them and she asked.
-
Omg, would it really be such a big disturbing problem for you if the lead singer or any other member of the band were gay?...
why do you care if he sleeps with girls or with guys... what's the big deal?
i don't get it...
peace -
I just read through these comments to see what other people think this song might mean, but more than half of the interpretations are debating the band members' sexuality, or these specific one night stands. I just have one thing to say about that: why do you people give a damn?? I have a lot of respect and admiration for MCR and their music, and I think that way too much focus is set upon assumptions about their personal lives, which is really nobody's business.
Having said that, I think this song is about how terrible life in prison is. -
Two words: bum sex. This song is about the disgusting rape that goes on in the American prison system, its horrifying but it has opened eyes I think.
