Nickelback: Lullaby Meaning
Song Released: 2011
Lullaby Lyrics
Of finding yourself stuck out on the ledge
And there ain't no healing
From cutting yourself with the jagged edge
I'm telling you that
It's never that bad
And take it from someone who's been where you're at
Laid out...
-
I think this song is sort of a message to anyone who's going through some rough patch.
Like when someone dies or you lose something you consider really important...
It is a message to everyone who feels so sad that he would like to commit suicide.
"Stop thinking about easy way out
There's no need to go blow the candle out
Because you're not done
You're far too young
And the best is yet to come"
Chad tells you that no matter what has happened to you it's not worth killing yourself because it gets better.
He tells you he believes in you that you'll get through it and he's gonna try to help you to feel better and if you can't get his help at least close your eyes and listen to his lullaby - to his words.
Everyone's hit a rock bottom at some point and wanted to commit suicide but Chad tells you that you're not the only one who feels that way and he's trying to help you by this song. -
That line that reads, "Out of the Darkness and into the Light" refers to the moto of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
The line that rips my heart out is "If you can't tell, I'm scared as Hell cause I can't get you on the telephone". When you KNOW someone is depressed and feeling exceptionally low, not being able to reach them on the telephone is heart wrenching. Knowing you made the call too late is even more difficult. -
I belive its about not giving in and living your life
-
i self harmed, and i use this song to help me through really difficult times now, instead of my old way. i got the words "there ain't no healing from cutting yourself with the jagged edge" tattooed to remind me that im not alone, and self harming got me now where. it gives a new meaning to my scars now... i survived.. i didnt give up
-
this song is about cutting, and sucidal thoughts, but he's beggin them note to do it" theres no need go and blow the candle out" he's saying thats he's bee were they are at, and he made it out and it will be ok.
-
wow this song is very powerful. i first heard this song and its now my favorite... im have been going through a hard time and this song speaks to me...
-
What “Lullaby” by Nickelback means to me is that if you find yourself in a bad situation, like suicide, that there is hope for you and that killing yourself is not the answer because you have your whole life ahead of you.

In verse one it states of finding yourself stuck out ledge, what that means is thinking about trying to commit suicide. Also in verse one it states from cutting yourself with a jagged edge. What is that jagged edge? It could be overdosing on pills, cutting your wrist, doing anything trying to commit suicide.
In verse to please let me take you out of the darkness and into the light. What that means is your down depressed in relation to verse one where it states of finding yourself stuck out on the ledge. Please let me take you out of the darkness and into the light, the darkness means what I have stated before depress and in relation to verse one where it states of finding yourself stuck out on the ledge. Stop thinking about the easy way out, what is the easy way by committing suicide. There’s no need to go and blow the candle out, it mean you have already done killed yourself. The ending of verse two is straight forward.
I love this song by NICKELBACK it touches me every single time I listen to, why is because I have actually tried to commit killing myself and this songs explains it all on why I did it because I was just sick and tired of fucking life. I love all songs by Nickelback don’t get me wrong but this one has really touched me. And this song is really talked about suicide. -
I personally believe this song is about him singing to someone of 'close' relationship- whether it be family or friend, perhaps it was just meant for the fans. But basically, I got 'suicide' shouting from it. It's him begging, practically, for the other person to hang on. He's saying he's been there before. In the verse "Please let me take you, out of the darkness and into the light. I have faith in you, that you're going to make it through another night." Well, that right there could conclude he's saying he wants to bring someone out from the darkness- hense, probably a sad and depressed state of mind. And then, there being said he has faith that they'll make it through another night, self-explanatory really, he believes they'll stay strong again. It's a very deep and inspiring song- it's saved a few lives that I know

This song brought tears to my eyes when I first heard it, it still does. I believe it's about suicide in many ways but the one that stuck out the most was
Stop thinking about the easy way out
(stop the suicidal thoughts)
There's no need to go and blow the candle out
(candle light represents life, blowing out represents ending it)
Because you're not done, you're far too young
(you still have more to live for. You're not ready to leave this life)
And the best is yet to come
(don't think it's all over, things WILL get better)
I'm not saying it IS about suicide but thats how I understand it as. I think about my best friends death everytime I hear this, she was 13, same as me and left this world on march 26th from suicide. That's why I believe this song is about that. -
I wholeheartedly agree that this song is about suicide (whatever the triggering event ie bullying, etc)...I was really annoyed when the music video turned into a PSA for adoption...That was a HUGE stretch of the imagination...the only tie to adoption or children is the "lullaby" association and even that is pretty tenuous...This is a soultouching song against suicide.
-
I honestly think the songs main purpose is whatever you feel it is there's mixed emotions of different feelings throughout the song, not just one focus.
-
My interpretation if the song is not about suicide but about generally giving up. In the video the boy wonders whether he can look after the baby especially as he reminds him of his wife who has now died in childbirth. He is considering adoption but when he realises that his wife loved the baby he decides to give it a shot.
I believe the song could be about anyone who has given up on any situation and is a song to remind them that bad things come our way but we can get through it.
It's a very inspirational song xx
