Nickelback: Lullaby Meaning
Song Released: 2011
Lullaby Lyrics
Of finding yourself stuck out on the ledge
And there ain't no healing
From cutting yourself with the jagged edge
I'm telling you that
It's never that bad
And take it from someone who's been where you're at
Laid out...

First of all, the way that Chad sings this song, it is one of the most powerful Nickelback songs ever made. That being said, I agree with alot of the interpretations of Lullaby. It is a song about a man or woman pleading and begging for someone they care about to 'give life one more try.' Someone who is going through a really rough time in their life and thinking about ending it all. Chad is trying to tell them that everything will be ok, because he has been there and he made it. However, I do not think he is talking about a specific person. In my opinion the line "And you can't tell I'm scared as hell 'Cause I can't get you on the telephone" has the infliction of a very generlized story that alot of people intrested in this song could identify with. Which is a very good song writing technique,

I think of the song under this situation:
A husband/boyfriend learns about his lover to be deeply depressed and suicidal, and she was about to commit suicide when the man/boy stopped her in the nick of time. In order not to add on to her worries, he hides his feelings but is very very concerned about his suicidal lover. And after finding her, persuaded her not to suicide, and managed to pull through the night. As the boy/man sat beside his lover's bed, putting her to sleep, he played this song. Lullaby.
And this song, the deepest part is
"Stop thinking about
The easy way out
There's no need to go and blow the candle out
Because you're not done
You're far too young
And the best is yet to come"
This is the verse that made me wanted to cry. Most people would resort to suicide generally because it is the easiest way out from all these unending and tiring troubles.
However, Chad is giving his opinion and solutions by implying that although we may had reached the darkest hour of our time, but it will be over, keep positive, the happiest moments still awaits our presence. If we ever give up now, we'll go through the easiest way and our happiest moments in life will never appear.
"So just give it one more try
With a lullaby
And turn this up on the radio
If you can hear me now
I'm reaching out
To let you know that you're not alone
And you can't tell
I'm scared as hell
'Cause I can't get you on the telephone
So just close your eyes
Honey, here comes a lullaby
Your very own lullaby"
The man/boy now puts his wife/girl to sleep. Let the lullaby soothe you down.
When every child is afraid to fall asleep due to the darkness, what they needed the most is a soothing lullaby to accompany them through the night. And this is the point of the song, Chad hopes that, through this song, he will accompany frightened and depressed people through this darkness, recover into the path of light.
"It's a long day honey, you didn't knew how worried I was, when I couldn't reach your phone, what should I do if you were gone? Honey, I love u, go to sleep, tomorrow will be a better day. You still have me, I'll be by your side no matter what..." The man/boy told his wife/girl.
His lover fell asleep.
I know the best interpretation had already been chosen, I'm not intending to snatch that position either. I just want to share these heartfelt thoughts about this song, it had really touched the bottom of my heart.
Thanks for reading.

i think its about a girl who cuts herself and shes thinking of giving up ( suicide)
but shes his friend so he wants her to live .
shes going trough a ruff time and everything is going down hill for her so she started cutting herself
therefore
'' there is no healing by cutting yourself with the jagged edge'' -
nickleback has said it's about suicide and the lyrics "There's no need to go and blow the candle out
Because you're not done
You're far too young
And the best is yet to come" cements the fact -
I think is about Chad singing to someone who has lost someone they love and the repercussions that follow. And telling them be strong and one day you might get over it.
-
I think the top rated is the one that makes most sense, exept for the bit where he says "if you can hear me now i'm reaching out", i think he is meaning the girl he is singning to.
-
When I first heard this song I was having a hard time in school. I love how when I listen to this song I feel like I can handle anything. Thanks chad and nickelback.
-
i thnk i means that if you having troubles in life like for example i have family problems and stuff and i cut myself so there for i think this is for people who just need that help to know that you are never alone and you will have someone for you that understands you and will listen and not give up short.

the video is about giving a child up for adoption, but i think its really more about suicide
-
The amazing thing about this song is it can be interpreted differently by everyone and still have profound meaning. Isn’t that what makes a great song, great? Not sure what Chad’s motivation was when he wrote but it seems to have hit home to many.

He actually cares for the people who are on the brink of taking their life. He knows from experience that it is harder than most people think to pull yourself out of that darkness. Showing that you care is the most important thing in this situation.
I was once ready to take my life and all that could save me was the reminder that someone loves me and tomorrow will be better. God saved me. After I started to recover I still had difficulty being happy living. I heard this song and my life was suddenly changed. I knew that someone cares and I can rely on these lytics to save me everytime that I'm ready to end it all. -
Thanks Chad
It brought me to tears while I was driving when I first heard it. Still does everytime I hear it. Helped save my life. So yea I took it as someone reaching out to pull me back from the edge/darkness. -
if you watch the music video, it pretty well describes the song. how a happy married couple were going to have a baby, but while the wife was in labor she lost her life, leaving the young in-experienced husband to father the child by himself. as he found things were not so easy he considered putting the child up for adoption until he sees and old video of his living pregnant wife on his phone and changes his mind.

he's basically saying that life is never so bad that you should commit suicide or harm yourself, and he's reaching out to everyone who is in that position, telling them to keep trying no matter how tough life is. and take it from someone who has been there, that ledge is harder to jump off than everyone thinks...
-
This song to me is about someone going through a rough time thinking of commiting suicide. I think Chad is trying to be that friend who reaches out telling them don't give up and that better things will come. Chad is giving that person(s) his experience from when he was there...
And take it from someone who's been where you're at
Laid out on the floor
And you're not sure
You can take this anymore
