This song was actually written when Tuomas Holopainen (lead songwriter of Nightwish) had a bout of writer's block! Lyrics such as "Time to lay this weary pen aside" and "No more tear stains on the pages of my diary" mean that Tuomas is done writing the song he had been struggling with.
