   I think this song is more about us, the directioners. It's like they are telling us that once they are gone (on the hiatus), we will be okay without them. When it says "so anytime I'm gone, you can listen to my voice and sing along", they are saying that even though they are gone, we can still listen to all of the songs they have written for us, so it's like they aren't really gone and we can still have them with us. I personally think that this is very much a 'goodbye for now' song from the boys for us.

   i think this song is about louis and harry. before you dismiss this idea and scroll past here me out.
   -the two of them are constantly forced to be separated, atleast in the public eye, which from most of the lines you can see its written to someone they are forced to be away from.
   "With just a hint of pain, for the feeling that I get when you are gone..."
   "So any time I'm gone..."
   -the two of them have had shared coats they've been photographed wearing (you can find this online trust me).
   "I wanna lend you my coat..."
   -harry's boat tattoo and louis' complimentary compass and anchor.
   "I wanna build you a boat..."
   -the lack of gender specificity in this song.
   keep in mind this is all speculation, i do not know their lives and what they do behind closed doors but from my personal perspective, this is how i see it.

   I think this is like their goodbye song to us the directions. They were kinda implying they aren't coming back after hiatus maybe just like something simple but not a full-on band. They wanted to say that we will have the rest of their songs as a memory of them so we can listen to them and feel safe. The line "so anytime I'm gone you can listen to my voice and sing along". SO yeah kinda implying they aren't coming back but the songs will be there for memories. Anyway, all my directions take care :)

   I think this song is a goodbye message to us “I Want to write you a song one to make your heart remember me so anytime I’m gone you can listen to my voice and sing along I want to write you a song” in the lyrics of the song when it say “so anytime I’m gone you can listen to my voice and sing along I want to write you a song” it means that when there gone which the are you can listen to that song and sing along.    I'm not sure if it's really for their fans or Zayn but I'm pretty sure it's not about harry and Louis..well cuz they weren't the ones who wrote it. Not all the 1d songs would be related to Larry Stylinson.. Grow up larries.

   I think it’s about Zayn leaving the band and them singing like „one to make your heart remember me“ is like their goodbye to him and
   All of the boys want Zayn to remember that they hat some good times too.
   And the loudest line is
   „One as beautiful as you Are Free“, Zayn had a huge eating disorder because of all the sh*t the
   Management put them trough.
   So basically he was insecure about his weight so they sang that he’s „beautiful“ and when he left the band he left their management too so the sang that he’s „free“ i think that’s a really cute interpretation of the song and it would kinda make sense.
