OneRepublic: Counting Stars Meaning
Song Released: 2013
Counting Stars Lyrics
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby I been, I been prayin' hard
Said no more counting dollars
We'll be counting stars
Yeah, we'll be counting stars
I see this life
Like a swinging...
-
"We'll be counting stars" doing the impossible, ie impossible to count the stars, but in the song they are doing just that, or can be looked @ as doing something thats doomed to fail, but I'd like 2 be an optimist abt it
-
There is no immoral conflict, or wrong focus of money assertions or addictions here.
The song is surely about:-
Thanks to the bright morning star; Revelation 1.
A man got out of the car at the party across the road in 2009, he must have been an angel as he threw two stars at me? I don't know what, are these the same two stars that I saw go off in his face in 1981? Signs ..... It was wrong, not good coz now you're tied up, and you keep getting tied up because you should've just married me from the start. Worried about the money all the .... time! Still waiting for God to make it perfect?
Look how far we've come. I am counting stars in my own room because I was prayin hard, Abraham started it, I ran out of money at the restaurant and the dockets are printing stars!
Heck why didn't someone tell me this before?????? By the power of God you declared us unreal, yet there is no miscellaneous file in Jesus Christ.
I don't care how hard you make it, I will not do wrong, I will keep pulling those stars. There is no comfort until my husband is laying in my arms. -
........... I sat up on my bed and the air in my room had turned blue, there were stars everywhere. I touched some, counted some, blinked twice and they're gone! .... I never smoked, never did drugs, don't drink alcohol. I bought food and there was a star on the docket! Kingdom food Jesus paid for me.

I think this song is like a miror that anyone can see himself in it and have his own thought..
But in my idea this song can be related to a wrecked relationship that he still wants to continue.. -

simply it means having lots of money is not everything in life ,, he focus on morals and love and caring of each others etc by the term of "counting stars " better than counting dollars .. also he gives a sign to go out for protesting against what we were told since we were little like " being materialistic , greed , getting more money as much as you can and getting busy with counting dollars " .. the message of the song is so clear to me I guess :)

I think it's about chasing our dreams.
'Lately, I've been I've been losing sleep thinking'
'Dreaming about the things that we could be'
The whole money issue is like not caring about money for now and going for the dream.
Try listening to the song with that perspective in mind -
I'm pretty sure it's saying that we wrongly correlate money to happiness, and instead of "counting money" and worrying about status, we should be "counting stars"- i.e.: simple blessings, beauty in life, etc. The lyrics elude to it, and the video with office workers drives the point home [for me at least].

Counting Stars, in my opinion, its about morality, what is the right or wrong for everyone depends about family, religion.
-
Even though, as a couple, they are going through some troubles and it pains him, he still wants to be there with her.
-
Doing the right thing is not as appealing as doing the wrong thing and it makes them feel more thrilled and though they know it is harmful to them, they still do the wrong thing
