Paramore: The Only Exception Meaning
Song Released: 2009
The Only Exception Lyrics
I saw my daddy cry
And curse at the wind
He broke his own heart
And i watched
As he tried to re-assemble it
And my momma swore
that she would never let herself forget
And that was the day that I promised
I'd never...

It's about her parents. The constant fighting of her parents. I think it's in hayley's pov as a little kid. :]
-
well, what about;
"I'd never sing of love
If it does not exist"
but she makes an exception, so she ís singing of love that doesn't exist? -
I think this song is talking about a person who built up a wall because she has seen many failed relationships before (such as parents) and she doesn't want that to happen to her. But she meets someone who broke the wall. So that is her "only exception"
-
It's about not believing in love and hiding from it until you meet one guy. And he's special, the one that you'll finally open up to.
-
The dad cheats on mom. END of story!
-
This is a song about letting yourself love.
-
In the video, she talks about her parents' divorce in the begining. Then she said she promised she believes in love no more. That is why she left her boy-friend a letter saying, ''I'm sorry.'' Which means she doesn't want to end up like her parents. But then she knows they'll be true. So she calls him ''The Only Exception'' of false love and returns saying she'll believe in love.

In the beginning of the song hayley is talking about her parents divorce
how her father cried and cursed
and her mother swore she wouldnt forget it
and when that happened she promised to never love
but she meets this guy and he's the only exception to that promise
then she goes on saying maybe she know in her heart that love never lasts
and that people have to do other things than fall in love cause its not real
and she always believed that love wasnt real and she stayed far away from this unreal thing
and she swore to herself that she was okay with being alone
because it wasnt worth the risk of ending up like her parents bascially being heartbroken
but this guy is the only exception to all of that she just stated
in the end of the song she's saying she doesn't really believe in love but she can't let go of this guy because he is the only exception to all the promises she made in the song
and when she says I'm on my way to believing
that means she on her way to actually believing that love is indeed real -
I think this song is about having your parents divorce when you're young, and you don't really believe in love until you meet this one guy.
